Julie's pov
After Avery poofed out of the living room, I grabbed my backpack and headed school because if I didn't leave now I was going to be late.
When I get to school I walk straight to my locker and put whatever I didn't need my locker and grabbing my dress before closing the door, jumping when I see Luke and Avery standing behind it.
"Normal people don't hide behind lockers and ghosts definitely shouldn't," I say to them as they just shrug.
"I told him it was a bad idea," Avery says as she shrugs with a smile on her face.
"You're looking much better," I say to her because the last time I saw her she was close to crying.
"I am," she says before Luke nudges her. "I'm not going to apologize for my trauma. It's not my fault I was abused as a child," she says rather harshly while shrugging.
"Okay," I say, not knowing how to continue a conversation after that. "What are you doing here?"
They both take a step so that they aren't leaning against the lockers and stand in front of me like parents about to confront their kid. "We need to talk about what song we're gonna play tonight. We were thinking Great," he says before someone waves at me so I put my phone to my ear like I'm talking to someone over the phone. "You're just going to tall a phone call while we're talking? You know how rude that is?" He asks but Avery flicks him.
"Obviously not, she's smarter than that, right?" she says, looking at me sternly.
"Hey! Thanks for calling. Otherwise, people might think I'm talking to myself," I say as I look at them both, Avery nodding before looking at Luke telling him she told him so. "No. But, yeah. I think Great is a great choice," I say, accidently putting a pun in the sentence.
"Sweet. Well, I mean, that's pretty much all I wanted to talk to you about," Luke says, almost like its pouting as he puts his hands in his back pockets.
"Oh, okay," I say, confused as to why they came all the way here just to ask me something.
"Uh, actually, no, there's one more thing I wanted to talk to you about. It's- Luke can you like back up a little so I can talk to her privately," Avery says, her cheeks turning pink all of a sudden, making me intrigued. He looks at her confused but then he nods and backs up until he almost to the end of the hallway. Once he's far enough way to not hear us, Avery turns back to me and starts to fidget with her rings. "Look, I know I'm not the easier person to work with, none of us are, but I-I wanted to tell you that I-I think you make me a better writer," she says, stuttering almost like she's embarrassed which makes me smile at her.
"I think we make each other better," I say, making me smile wider.
"Why don't you just ditch school today!" Luke yells from down the hall, making Avery and I smile. "Let's go rehearse," he says quieter once he gets to Avery and I.
