Alex's pov

After Luke and Avery left the school, they came back to the studio where they were surprised to see that I was awake before Reggie and grabbed their guitars and started plucking the strings.

"Look, we add the echoes to the chorus, then when Julie comes in with the melody, it's gonna sound perfect," Luke says, looking up at us after he finishes plucking some random strings on his electric guitar.

We hear a faint thud outside of the studio, making me look at the doors, seeing Willie's face in the window before he ducks out of view.

"What the hell?" Avery asks, clearly as confused as I am.

"Again? What's that all about?" Reggie asks, pointing at the door.

"I don't know," I say, shrugging before I poof into the outdoor space in front of the studio, stopping Willie from skating away. "What's your problem? It's like you're tracking me down just so you can keep running away," I say to Willie as he stares at me sadly.

"I wish I could explain, man, but I can't," he says as he backs away from me.

"Wait. That's not good enough," I say, grabbing his wrist. "I mean, you've been acting weird ever since Caleb's club. You know, I thought we were having fun together," I say as I shrug, almost feeling like I'm about to cry.

He shakes his head and then sighs. "We never should've met," he says, making me let go of his wrist and nod slowly.

"Wow, that hurts," I say, not knowing what I'm supposed to say.

"Hey, I'm sorry, Alex. I really am," he says, as I just stare at him, knowing he's lying. Because if he wasn't lying, he wouldn't be leaving. "You're a great guy. I gotta go," he says before putting his skateboard down and skating away.

Right after he leaves, Avery comes walking out. "What happened, neither of you looked very happy," she says, with a stern look.

"He, um," I stutter, not wanting to say it or else it might be true.

"Oh, Alex," she says as she brings me in for a hug. "I never liked him," she says, making me laugh slightly. "Wanna go practice?" She asks as she lets go of me as I nod before grabbing my hands and walking us back into the studio where Luke and Reggie are already standing by my drums with their guitars in hand.

We start practicing the song and it's going pretty well until I find myself starting to take my anger from Willie out on my drums, still drumming even after they all stopped.

"Alex, you all right?" Luke asks, resting his guitar under his arms.

"Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Why?" I say even though I know exactly why.

Avery and Luke look at each other and then to Reggie. "I know it's tough, man. People say you never forget your first ghost. Maybe that's true," he says making me smile tightly and nod. "But, I'm sure there will be others."

Avery walks up to him and nudges him. "That's not really something you say to someone who just got broken up with, dude," she says to him before looking at me. "He's a dick. If he didn't want you, that's his problem."

"And, Alex, you're a great drummer and a great guy, okay?" Luke says resting his arms on one of my drums. "I wouldn't let all that stuff get in between you and what you love."

"Don't touch my drums," I say before he backs away.

"I dunno know, man," Reggie says, making us all look at him. "Sometimes a little fire can make some things better on stage. Like Ave and Julie," he says as I watch Luke. Luke clenches his jaw then relaxes it.

"What's that supposed to mean," Avery says, walking over to Luke.

"Come on. Everyone can see the way you look at her when you sing," Reggie says, stating his case. "You guys ooze chemistry."

"You should never say 'ooze' again, but yeah, I agree," I say.

"Because all of the songs Luke and I write with her are oddly romantic," she says, putting her hands up.

"Okay, no. I have chemistry with everybody I sing with," she says as Reggie and I look at each other.

"Seriously, watch. I believe, I believe that we're just one dream away from who we're meant to be. That we're standing on the edge of great," she sings, walking closer and closer to Reggie until she grabs the back of his neck

"Wow, I see chemistry," I say from behind my drums.

"That was pretty hot," Reggie says as Avery laughs at him and pats his cheek before walking back to Luke.

Luke looks down at her before she nudges him. "Your turn," she says to him before leaning into Luke to whisper something in his ear which makes him smile and before he does the same thing to Reggie that Avery just did.

When Luke gets up to Reggie face after he finishes singing the exact same way Avery just did, Reggie stutters and laughs awkwardly before Luke kissing his fingers then touching them to Reggie lips, making Reggie panic. Reggie clears his throat before shrugging. "Girls. Am I right?" He asks as Luke puts his guitar over his shoulder.

"Yeah," Luke says as Avery nods her head back and forth, unsure.

"No," I say, sitting back down on my stool before we get back to practicing.
