Julie's pov

As I sit on the stage floor, hidden by the curtains and I can't help but think what a complete and idiotic mistake this was. Trusting four ghosts to not seek revenge and to do this one thing for me.

"I can only stall for so long," Flynn says, standing in front of me and looking down. "It's eleven o'clock. I think you should just play by yourself. I mean, holograms or no holograms, you'll be amazing."

"You saw me the other day," I say, shaking my head in frustration. "I can't play without them. They'll be here. They have to," I say to her, more for my sanity than hers.

She sighs and taps her wrist like it's a clock, telling me they better hurry up before she yells into the crowd again. "Looking good, Bobcats!"

"Issues?" I hear a voice say.

I look up and see Nick standing beside me, making me wince before I smile tightly as he sits down next to me. "Always," I say, shrugging. "My machine won't work." He picks up the small box that what he believe makes the band appear but I stop him. "You don't have to," I say, gripping the small power plug in my hand, hoping he doesn't see it.

I watch as his hand grab the small wire and follow it until he reaches my hand. I look up at him and smile tightly again before loosening my grip on the plug.

"Here's the problem," he says, grabbing the power bar next to him and plugging it in before flipping the switch, making the box glow. "That is unless you didn't want it plugged in," he says standing up and walking closer to the open stage. He bends down and puts out his hand to help me up. I grab his hand as he pulls me up and this time, I don't feel anything. No tingles, no heat, just a hand. "Hey, don't let this crowd freak you out. What I saw last time you played was insane. You got this. I knew you had it in you," he says backing up and walking toward Flynn who's standing at her DJ stand.

"Wait. What?" I ask, but it was too late.

Nick grabbed the microphone and put it up to his mouth to talk to the crowd. "Hey, everybody!" He yells into the crowd, making everybody stop dancing and singing. "We fixed the hologram thing. Who wants to see a show?" He asks, making the crowd start cheering again. "Now, give it up for Julie and the Phantoms!" He yells, my eyes widening.

He motions for me to come onto stage so I walk slowly, trying to avoid eye contact with anybody in the crowd. He hands the mic to me then runs off stage to stand right in front of me.

I grip the mic and stage into the crowd, knowing I have to disappoint all these people again. "Hi," I wave to the crowd, not knowing what to do or say. "So here's the thing, even though we got the machine fixed, thanks to Nick, I can't seem to link up with the guys. Wi-Fi, am I right?" I ask awkwardly, wanting to be anywhere but here right now. "I'm sorry, but, the show's canceled."

In the corner of my eyes, I see Carrie walking up the stage's stairs and I groan, not wanting to deal with her right now.

"Anybody know the Heimlich?" She asks the crowd, making me confused. "Julie's choking," she finishes, making everybody but Nick, Flynn, and I laugh. "Only one way to save this dance," she says as she walks the rest of the way up the stairs and grabs the microphone from my hands. "Who wants to see Dirty Candy?" The crowd cheers in response as Carrie goes to turn the volume knob on Flynn's DJ board but Flynn grabs it and rips it off the board.

"Oops," Flynn says, shrugging with a smug smile on her face. "Knob's broken."

"Okay," Carrie says, staring Flynn down. "Two can play at this game," she says to us before turning back to the crowd. "Party at my house!" She yells, making everybody leave, making sure to drop the mic on the DJ board before she walked out as well.

When everybody leaves, Flynn wraps her arm around my shoulders making us walk together to the edge of the stage and sit down.

"Well, that kinda backfired," she says, shrugging before I rest my head on her shoulders making her rest her head against mine. "I'm sorry, Jules."

I shrug awkwardly and shake my head against her shoulder. "It's not your fault. I knew it was a mistake."
