Chapter 29

EVELYN'S POV

After Eros and Ivan left, I came to the kitchen to clean up after the catering agency but to my surprise the kitchen was thoroughly cleaned up. I opened the refrigerator to take out water to drink and I saw different dishes varying from dinner to breakfast and lunch all prepared and well packaged for microwaving. I was surprised, I didn't know Eros could be this thoughtful but I must give him some points. He really did put an effort during this period of mum's death. Having no appetite for food I took an apple and headed to dad's room, I knocked twice before entering.

"Hey Mr Carter" I called out to him

"Princess any problem?" he asked me weakly

"No...nothing at all" I replied him sitting at the edge of the bed

"All the guests have left and I want to retire to my room but I wanted to see you first before leaving" I told him

"You know I am not a kid so I don't need checking up on" he answered me guessing the reason I was in his room

"Yeah true...if anyone needs checking up on that should be me. That reminds me it's been long someone tucked me in and read me bedtime stories" I said accusingly while looking at dad with my lip slightly raised up in an amusing manner.

"So someone misses being 5 huh" dad replied me in a lighter tone

"Of course... I wondered why I tried to grow up so fast, adulthood is no fun at all" I said with a slight pout

"Well you are all grown love, deal with it" dad said lightly.

"That's sooo mean coming from you dad aren't I your little princess again" I asked him jokingly

"All princesses grow up, find their princes and become queens" dad replied me.

This topic reminded me of Eros and he is the least thing on my mind so I opted to change the topic before it went deep.

"Here is an apple" I gave it to dad
"I know you have not had anything all day and probably you don't have an appetite for food either so I'm not gonna force you to eat but you can atleast have this" I told him

"And please don't argue with me" I finished. Dad took the apple and ate from it.

I stood up to leave but stopped when I got to the door I looked at dad

"You know you don't have to go all through this alone, I'm still here. We can go through this together"

"Good night dad and I love you " I said before finally leaving for my room.

I discreetly went to the guest room to check up on my aunt. I knocked lightly at her door and heard no response. I opened the door slightly and saw that she was sound asleep, deciding not to wake her up I tip toed back to my room. I had a warm bath to wash away the stress of today before laying in my bed. And as usual I couldn't sleep, I kept tossing and turning till I dozed off.

I woke up in the morning and rushed to the bathroom because my bladder was about to start trickling any moment from now. After relieving myself I had my bath as well before coming down to heat up breakfast since Eros was kind enough to have the caterers prepare it for us besides it was already 8am which means it was equally time for breakfast. Today is Sunday and thank God I don't have to resume college immediately.

After heating up breakfast and setting the table I firstly went up to call my aunt before heading to dad's room. I knocked briefly before entering.

"Dad you are still in bed?" I asked while going over to check on him. I felt his body with my palm and sure enough he was running a temperature.

"Dad I think you are coming down with a fever" I said in a panicky voice

"I'm sure it is nothing but just stress from the recent ordeal. You don't need to worry I will be back on my feet after getting a good sleep" he told me in a strained voice

"Could you sit up a little" I asked him. I helped him to sit while placing a pillow at the edge of the bed so that he can rest his back on it.

I rushed down to get some ice bag and pleaded with aunt to make some porridge for dad. When I got to dad's room I placed the ice bag on his forehead while I used some wet towels to wipe his face, hands and feet.

A slight knock came at the door before my aunt entered with a tray which had a plate of porridge and some tablets on it. I took the porridge from her hands and fed it to dad. He ate from my hands without complaining which means this sickness has really got him good. After he finished eating the porridge I gave him the tablets which he took before laying down and closing his eyes. After I tucked dad in, I and aunt went down to have our now cold breakfast.

"You know you don't really have to worry about your dad. I am sure after this phase he will bounce back and be as good as new" aunt said to me in attempt to take my mind away from worrying.

"Yeah I know he will but between mum and dad, I think mum was the stronger one between the two" I said while eating

"During mum's crisis dad had it more rough than mum did but I know we all just need time" I completed

"Speaking of needing time I was thinking of going back with your dad for atleast a month after which he can come back. You know he needs a change of environment" aunt said.

"But isn't that too soon I mean he needs to still stick around because we are still mourning you know what I mean" I told her trying to make her see reasons with me.

"I really do understand what you mean but I can't leave my brother here alone just all by himself after his wife's passing can I? She asked me

"Your brother is equally my father and I am here to take care of him no matter how long it takes because it is my duty as his daughter" I answered her back slightly raising my voice.

"You seem to forget that you are a newly married woman and you cannot be away from your husband for long" she reminded me

"You of all people know the condition of my marriage and I cannot run to a loveless marriage at the expense of my dad" I retorted back to her

"Indeed I understand the condition of your marriage but don't you think your mum will be turning in her grave if her only daughter didn't have the decency to fight for her marriage to work before throwing it away after all the efforts she put to make the marriage happen in the first place" aunt shouted at me.

I looked her dead in the eyes before a tear fell from my eyes.

"I'm so sorry I shouldn't have said that, I didn't mean it" She said coming close to me but I stopped her with my hands.

"It's okay I totally understand what you mean" I replied her before dashing to my room. She totally ruined breakfast for me after I mustered some appetite.
