"Dad!"
A familiar voice coming from the halls causes their sparring to get halted.
Looking at each other with a hint of curiosity, Abel and Siegren pause there match as hey waited for the woman to emerge coming from the inside of the castle. They have been waiting for her for a while now after all.
"Dad!"
Not giving Abel time to prepare himself, Fiona lunches herself to her father with a tight hug, burred her face on his chest as both her father and fiancé stare at her in shock as there were tears rolling down her cheeks.
"Why.."
"Why are you crying? Is it because of this brat-?!"
"Why are you blaming me-"
"Why didn't you tell me about your wife, dad?"
Frozen and silence, that was best words to describe this moment as soon as Fiona said her thoughts.
Only then did Fiona realize what she had done when he heard a deep sigh coming from her father.
It causes her to flinch. Realizing how insensitive and out of her mind was she a couple of minutes ago that she just opened up the topic to his father when it could be something she was never supposed to know.
"Dad, I-"
"So you find out huh?"
Abel let out a chuckle
"What do you mean Fiona find out? You don't have a wife."
"I do have a wife."
Abel defended, rolling his eyes at his mentee and soon to be son in law.
"No you don't."
"I do have one."
Abel spoke calmly
It was not the situation Fiona had expected to see, she was already preparing for her father to loose it, to get irritated or even avoid about it.
But he has been calmly taking this at all.
"No, I've known you ever since I'm a teen. You don't have a wife."
"I do, in fact we're two decades married already."
Abel once again spoke, shrugging like it was nothing.
"Now then young lady, care to explain why you're holding her diary?"
Abel spoke, referring to the worn out diary Fiona has been hiding on her back now.
Out in the open view of his people, Abel hold out his hand, waiting for his child to give her the diary of his beloved wife. Only then did his aide notice, the one that was standing in the corner once waiting for his master and Siegren to finished their spar what the trio was in fact talking about.
You, (First name)(Lastname).
It was a topic that has never been brought out for almost two decades now, a topic that none of them would dare open up on their Lord ever since that night that the Lord have come out with the Lady (First name) and end up coming back all alone with a diary in hand. A topic that none of them dare asked.
"My Lor-"
"I happened to stumble upon her old room and saw this."
Fiona admitted, although leaving a few details, that was most of what happened.
"Her old room? But her mentor burned down that room when she died."
Abel replied naturally, causing his aide to flinch of how natural he mentioned you died.
He remembered that day, no, that night when his Lord comes back without you. He remember being the one to attend his Lord for there was still some urgent paper works that needed to be done at the moment. Although nothing seems wrong, his Lord proceeded to buried himself with paper works, even making a quick clean up sessions on the wall as if to vent out something.
His Lord have changed, although it may not be that much obvious, everyone who saw how the two of them grew up together knew nothing was the same as it was. The two duo who would often walk around the castle was no longer their, only the man left behind walking around with then a child with him and now with his now aged up adopted daughter.
"Well then? Give it back?"
"There was a note written inside that says it should not be given to you, Dad?"
"Really? I know, now give it back."
Before Fiona could even protest, the book was no longer by her hands as she blink.
"I'll be taking this with me then, let's continue this spar tomorrow."
Abel spoke then eventually turn his back at the couple.
Walking passed his aide, he gave him a glance before saying.
"Clear my schedule for the day. I will be resting somewhere."
"But my Lord.. Alright.."
His aide could not help but to let out a sigh, already thinking of a drink to give his lord later.
"Dad!"
Fiona called out after him
"What?"
Abel replied, but he did not turn around
"I never knew you had a wife."
Fiona admitted, it was never in the novel she have written after all
"You never asked."
Abel chuckled
"Do you have anymore questions?"
"How could you let her go so easily?"
Fiona couldn't help but to ask
Because she saw the way he looks at her, from childhood to adulthood, never once have she seen her father looking at another woman like that, let alone another person.
And that night, she have seen how much he cherished her, how much those words came from the heart. So how? How could he let her go so easily? Or was that really the same?
"Heh?"
Abel looked back at her as he once again chuckle
"I'm jealous."
There was a gentle smile on Abel's face when he said that
"I could only wait until my next life to..."
As Abel was saying that as he walked away from the couple, in which the two could barely hear of his words as he shake his head in his way down the hall, holding the diary in hands.
"What did he say?"
Siergen asked with a frown on his face
But Fiona who could easily read her father's mouth knew what he just said.
