It wasn't long after, Santana was released from the hospital. Unlike most people though, she dreaded every second. She felt safe in the hospital, safe knowing there were nurses and doctors around pretty much every corner. But back at home, there were only two people, and they would have to leave at least once during the week, even month, or year! Leaving Santana alone, fearing for the worst.
The Lopez family walked up their driveway onto the front porch. Santana froze for a second as she remembered rushing outside, screaming for her parents. Her father placed a comforting hand on her shoulder and led her inside behind their wife and mother. Santana looked to her left at the wall. The wall she'd gotten thrown into and stabbed at. The wall she was leaned up against when she watched her attacker run away like a coward out the backdoor.
It was clean and tidy. Almost as if there had never been blood there in the first place.
Santana's breathing quickened as all the flashbacks flooded her memory. The stairs, the upper hallway, her parents bathroom, her parents bedroom. The moment she heard the knocking, to the moment she hid. It all came back to her.
It felt like Santana's heart was going to explode into a billion pieces (if there even was anything left after the explosion). Her body began to cold sweat, her eyes went wide and her face turned a blotchy red.
Santana jumped when she heard her mothers voice.
"It's okay, baby. We've changed all the locks on the doors, and we've gotten security cameras. No one can hurt you, not anymore." Her mother spoke.
Santana took a deep breath to recompose herself. "Can i sleep with yous tonight?"
Her parents looked to one another for a second, before turning back to their daughter and smiling.
"Of course. Your mother and i will set up the air mattress for you." Her dad said and gave his daughter a small nod forward.
"No..." Santana's lower lip quivered, "I want to sleep in your bed, with you and mum."
"I- uh, i mean you can, but you're sixteen, sweetheart. Don't you think you're a little too big for that?" Mrs. Lopez nervously said.
Santana snapped her mother a look. "Ma, i almost died a few days ago. And you still don't even know where your phone is!"
The young girl began to hyperventilate. Her parents quickly rushed to their daughter and brought her in for a tight embrace. All three now sitting on the floor.
"Okay, okay," Said Mr. Lopez. "You can sleep with us for however long you need to, alright?" He kissed his daughter on the head.
The family stayed like that for minutes, or perhaps hours. Time flew by rather quickly while they all hugged it out.
Santana eventually fell asleep in her parents' grasp. Mr. Lopez picked his daughter up and carried her to the couch, where he gently placed her down. Mrs. Lopez grabbed a blanket and carefully placed it over Santana. The two stepped back from their daughter and looked at her. Neither one of them could imagine a life where their daughter wasn't in it.
