The whole school was full of girls waiting for boys to ask them to the ball. Ella still hadn't been asked by anyone.
She was seated in the library reading a book when she heard a chair moving in front of her. Someone sat down. She looked up to see a certain blonde boy.
"What do you want?" she asked scoffing, "I didn't know you could read."
"Very funny. For a moment I thought of asking you to the Yule Ball but I change my mind now," he said slowly raising from the chair.
She couldn't help but laugh. "As if I'd say yes to you," she snorted. Her eyes reading her book. She jumped as she heard a chair hit the floor. She dropped her book to look at Draco. He tipped the chair over and stormed out of the library.
What's up his ass?
Moment later Harry entered the library. "Hey are you okay? I saw Malfoy storming out of here."
"I'm fine. What you doing here?" Ella asked as she got up to put her book away. Harry followed her.
Harry looked down. "I just was wondering if you had a date yet?"
"I don't think I'm going to go," she said shrugging her shoulders.
"Oh yeah that's understandable. I got to go," Harry said embarrassed as he left the library.
Ella signed. She promised herself she wasn't going to attend this silly ball. She probably ruined her only chance at having a date but oh well. Later that night a package was found on her bed. It was from her mother, she had sent her a dress for the ball.
She swore under her breath. Now she had to go to the ball and she was going to be the only one without a date.
...
It was the night of the ball. She curled her hair and put on a light dash of make up. Slipping into the gold dress and heels, she felt so nervous.
She walked down the hall to the dining hall where she entered, there was so many beautiful girls in stunning dresses. Ella felt like she couldn't compare. She found herself a table in the corner and took a seat alone.
The tournament players had their first dance with their dates and then the rest of the student joined in. Ella stayed seated in the corner, sipping some punch.
She noticed Draco in the crowd, his hands on Pansy who was his date. She caught his eyes when they did a spin. She swore she saw his eyes widen at her appearance but she pretended she saw nothing.
Once all the traditional dancing was done, they played a more crazy rock song. Ella decided this was enough Yule Ball craziness for her. She wasn't having fun at all.
She got up to leave, exiting through the doors but before she was half way down the steps she heard her name being called. She stopped, turning around to see Draco standing at the top step.
"Your date is waiting for you, Malfoy," she said raising her brow at him.
His heart stung a little. She never called him Malfoy.
"Why are you leaving?" he asked glancing over at her gold dress, it was rather beautiful on her.
"Can you make fun of me for not having a date already so I can move on with my night?" she said sarcastically chuckling, her feet were sore in her heels as she sat down on the steps. This night was pointless.
Draco paused. Trying to pick a good choice of words. "You never got to dance yet?" he asked stepping down the steps to where she sat.
"What do you think? I can't dance anyway," she mumbled. She blinked twice when a hand appeared in front of her face. It was Draco's hand. He was offering his hand to her. She didn't know why but she took it. He pulled her to her feet leading her off the steps.
"Can't let a good dress go to waste," he said as he placed her hands on him, swaying in the moonlight. She tried not to look him in the eyes but every so often she caught them and they were staring into her.
They ended up dancing so close that her arms were around his neck and her chin rested on his shoulder.
What felt like forever had to come to an end when they heard footsteps leaving the dining hall. They quickly let go. Draco cleared his throat as it was just a couple making out, stumbling their way past them.
Ella looked at Draco. "Tell anyone this and you're dead," Draco said before going back into the dining hall.
Ella sighed. What just happened? She shook her head, she needed to go to bed it was way past her bedtime. She pretended what happened that night didn't happen at all.
Ella didn't care much about the rest of the tournament and long story short, that guy that looked like a pale vampire well he died in the last challenge to Voldemort, the scene traumatized everyone. That was one way to end the year.
