"Hey dude! Check that out! She's trying to hit on him again!"
Immediately three pair of eyes turned towards the waitress at the counter.
The lady wore a black lace uniform, and held the tray with grace. She walked with gait and shook her hair as she greeted the man who just entered.
"Hello handsome! You sure are late today aren't you?" she purred as she leaned onto him, his silhouette backed against the door.
Across the counter someone shouted, "Get a room Lauren! Or get back to work!"
With an indignant Humph, she turned towards the door-only to find the man missing.
She turned and noticed him move towards the three prying bozos. Knowing them all too well, she turned and took heel.
"Haha! Lauren never changes." One of them spoke, patting the man. "But damn! I wish she'd flirt with me sometime!"
"Please, by all means you're welcome to take her off my hook." He replied, frustration evident in his voice. "Seriously, will that woman ever learn that that is just sick?"
"Easy for you to say. If I were you Eric, I'd make a go for it. I hear she's a keeper. You were into those kind, weren't you?"
The man, Eric Saunders chuckled. "Nah, how many times do I have to tell you Chuck, I'm not interested in any relationship. I have other priorities, unlike you."
"That is- wait. What you mean unlike me? I'll have you know that I have other important stuff as well. I have a job." Chuck replied. The others laughed.
"Sure you do. I'm willing to bet that in three days, you're going to need a new one." Eric replied. "Ron, explain to this guy. "
Ron took a sip of his drink and grinned mischievously. "Heh. My pleasure. "
Turning to Chuck, he said, "Boss tried calling you, but you were so busy smooching up a storm yesterday that you didn't realize it."
Dan stopped laughing. "Wait. You're seriously saying that Chuck is going to get fired for having sexy times with that chick?"
"That chick so happens to be the boss's wife." Ron added lazily, downing the rest of his beer.
"Wait. Hold it! How do you both know about my job and boss when I don't? "
Eric laughed, "simple" he said, pouring the beer for himself. "You seem to forget that Ron got you the job. And Ron manages the accounts. "
"And last I checked, my account stats show no salary for anyone by the name of Chuck Harris." A pause. "Oh and by last time, I meant this morning, when every guy went to work, except you. As usual. "
The three laughed except for Chuck. He was silent, processing what was just told and then spoke:
"Well fuck. I screwed up"
"AGAIN." Eric, Ron and Dan groaned. Chuck never changed.
A dog never changes his bark.....wait, that's wrong. Maybe it was a dog can't be taught new tricks? Whatever, point is Chuck is like a dog, he never changes. And hence ends jobless most of the time. Yet no one knows how he manages to survive.
The four friends finished off their drinks and left the bar.
"So same time next week?" Ron asked.
Dan shook his head, "Unlike some people" he looked at Chuck and Ron, "I have a constant job which pays me shit. I have to work overtime next week, so I'm out."
"What about you Eric?"
"Mid-terms."
Chuck groaned. "Of all the things, you'd choose to become a professor? It makes no sense! Atleast Dan has an interesting job."
Dan chuckled, "Sure. If you call cooking crappie food and selling it at real cheap rates, then yeah...my job's cool. Atleast Eric and Ronnie here seem to be making some money. Anyways speaking of work, I'll have to go in 5."
They spoke for a while outside, mostly Ron whining about Dan disrespecting a man's name and then parted ways.
Eric walked with Chuck. Suddenly, as they neared Eric's place, the latter of the two stopped. "Hey, Eric. I think someone finally bought that shabby house after all!"
"Wait? Someone bought that shit hole of a house? And here I was hoping it would be demolished next month.". The two stopped to see who was moving in. Suddenly they noticed a thin, pale lady stepping out. She covered her mouth with a cloth.
"Hmm. Atleast she has the sense to cover her mouth. Looks cute. What do you think?" he turned to Eric.
Eric looked at her. "Don't know. Pretty and looks young. But then most ladies in their twenties look like my students, so you never know. "
"You know, I agree that Lauren is not the best person to go with, don't look at me like that" he sighs at Eric's affronted look, "you ought to know better, but it's been the years since you've gone out with someone. I'm not saying you should go and flirt with every single girl you see, not to brag but I'm a pro-" Eric snorted at that, "hush while I'm trying to give you some advice. But you need to go out with someone. Basically just get laid."
Eric chuckled. "Nah I'll pass. I'd rather be single and happy than be like you, Mr. Pro who hasn't gotten laid either."
"Ouch! That's a low blow" Chuck winced. "But I guess I had that coming. Well. We reached your place. So bye! See you next time! Need help in calculating the marks, don't come to me. "
"You're the worst pal, you know that? "
"And yet we still hang out, must be real shitty. Anyways. I got to go." Chuck started to leave, but he shouted out, "oh and if she's not a student, get her number! Even if she is a student, give it to me! Oh, this applies only if you aren't interested in her of course, bro code and all."
Eric hit his palm against his head. Best friend indeed.
Did he have to shout that out for the world to hear?
