"When did you last see her?"
Eric looked at the burly man in front of him. Considering everything, he's glad it's a man and not a woman before him.
Still doesn't mean he'd open up to the shrink though, it's hard to do so.
Especially when all he could see is her, hear her heavy breathing, the darkness closing over her, engulfing her whole, taking her away...
"-ric! Mr. Eric, snap out of it! Mr. Eric!"
Eric blinked. What was going on? Oh, his mind supplied as he realized he was still in the psychologist's chambers, trying to get over the accident but instead over thinking about it.
"I don't think this is working out." He muttered out loud. His psychiatrist, Dr. Dave M., just nodded.
"Of course it won't, you haven't even given this a shot."
Haven't given it a shot? Gods, Eric has been trying to do so, but every time he opens his mouth, he feels hands grasping his, his breathing constricted and the words stuck in his throat.
Haven't given it a shot? He became a recluse, he lost the person he planned his future with and this man had the gall to say this to him.
Haven't given it a shot? Haven't given it a shot? "Don't you dare insinuate that I haven't even tried to give this a shot. Do you even have any idea about the current state of my mind? I have no idea what I'm even doing here? Sh-she, Ali-, she's gone."
The words brought out tears, his emotion coming out, the flood within him finally seeking release.
"S-she was everything. I pushed her to save her! She shouldn't, couldn't vanish! That's not possible." His eyes stung, his wrist aching. He had fisted his palm and his nails were pushing right through it, but either he wasn't aware of it or he didn't care.
Dr. Dave looked at him solemnly, his words convincing Eric. The man wasn't aware that this would be the last time his patient would visit him and he might regret his choice of words later on, but right then he said the only thing he believed would get through to the man.
"We do not know if she's truly lost to us or not Eric. But for the moment, think about what you need to do for your future, for her. Live the life she'd want you to lead if nothing."
_________________"Dude are you crazy? I get not moving on but thinking of someone else as her? That's just-"
"I KNOW!" Eric shouted. He knew he was intoxicated, the drinks and the topic weren't helping him.
"I know." He repeated, as though that wpuld change a damn thing, "That's why I feel I should stop. It's not fair to her."
"And to you."
Eric looked at his best friend. He met Chuck about a couple months or two after that day.
It still baffles him how he got himself a true friend like him.
He sometimes wonder if Chuck is even real.
The reason?
Chuck sees what doesn't or can't be said. He may not look it, but he gives a damn about Eric. More than Eric does.
"Dude. You better stay at my place tonight." Something in Eric's expression made him rethink it, "or we'll go to your place. You rest, I'll handle the rest."
He really should thank his stars that Chuck found him that day and decided to stick his stupid nose into his life.
The man may be an idiot but Eric can always count on him to prevent him from being one.
Especially now.
Now when he's twisting things just to please his stupid heart.
"Might as well meet that girl too."
