The Practice Boyfriends: Chapter 4

They kind of forget their half-formed plan for the next few weeks, busy with separate filming projects and other things that take up their time. But when it gets to day 12 and Krist hasn't seen Singto in person since they woke up in his bed that morning as P'Jane slammed the door shut behind himself, he grabs a bike to his condo and raps on the door.

Singto answers in a damp shirt, towel slung low round his hips and a toothbrush stuck in one cheek. "Ki-t!" he exclaims around a mouthful of foam. Then gestures for him to come in as he runs back to his bathroom to spit.

Krist relaxes on his couch, flicking on Netflix to see what Singto has queued up and then laughs at the stream of Chinese and Korean dramas that he has also been watching.

"Our tastes are still the same, Phi!" He calls out as Singto exits his bathroom, a small towel in his hand to dry his hair as he heads over to the couch. "Here, let me." Krist says and motions for Singto to sit between his legs on a thoughtfully placed cushion.

He spends several minutes carefully drying his Phi's hair, teasing out the water gently so he doesn't break the silky strands, "I need some of your shampoo, P'Sing," he says conversationally, as Singto rubs his head into his hands (and the towel) like he's a cat, "My hair's never felt as good as the last time I stayed here."

Singto murmurs in reply, grabbing the remote from the couch and flicking to a drama they had been watching together before they were forced apart for the past two weeks. He queues up the next episode and then glances up, his question clear, "Yeah, I haven't seen it yet, Singtuan! I was saving it to watch with you of course."

They watch the mindless show, Krist finishing with Singto's hair and then pulling him up onto the couch so he can use him as a pillow for the scary parts.

"I don't know why you watch this when you always get scared?" Singto says as Krist's head ducks behind his shoulder for the thousandth time, hand clawing at his arm, "How will I explain these bruises on my photo shoot tomorrow?"

Krist relaxes his grip and peeks out to apologise and Singto takes the opportunity to grab him and pull him properly under his arm and into his embrace, "Here, you can hide much more easily now, okay."

Krist freezes in his hold for a moment, but then he snuggles in and they continue to watch. For a moment, all is calm, but then Krist says, almost hesitantly, "Is this what it would be like if you were dating someone, Phi?" And then it's Singto's turn to freeze as he considers it, their conversations from weeks ago flooding back.

They watch ten more minutes of the episode, Krist hiding at every jump-scare and Singto holding him close and protecting him, before he reaches out for the remote and pauses it, actors freezing in place, "Yeah. I think so."

"Yeah, what?" Krist asks, owl-like eyes lifting to look at him as Singto pulls away and slides against the armrest, making space between them.

"Yeah, I think this is what I'd be like to date. If I knew someone intimately anyway."

Krist seems to mull it over for a few seconds and then he looks confused, "But this is pretty much how we always watch movies, Phi?"

"Yeah." Singto says again and then clams up and ignores Krist's questioning looks and makes him use a pillow instead of his arm when he's scared for the rest of the episode.

Later, in bed, Singto tries to work out his reaction and as he considers it, he gets a little scared.

Sure, there are lines that he and Krist have crossed during their work life, and sure, they're probably much closer than the average Phi-Nong in real-life too with their sleepovers and having no issue with being partially dressed (or nude, Singto thinks with a small smile) in front of each other. He knows his friends who are in 'imagine couples' are pretty close to each other too, but he often feels like he and Krist have some kind of 'psychic connection' the way they react to each other with ease during filming and photo shoots and fan meets.
