Ash's POV
I went on my phone as soon as the coach announced that practice was over for the day.
I texted Lin: "I just got finished with practice, you wanna go somewhere?" I didn't expect a reply immediately; they've been the type to not respond until about 2 days. I mean, I know they're busy with teaching guitar and stuff, but xe's still a nice friend to have.
As I walked out the exit, someone snatched my phone from me.
"H-Hey!?" I exclaimed, half in confusion, and half in surprise. I looked behind me, and immediately spotted my phone; It was being held by Emily. "Hey, Emily, give me my phone back!"
"Hm? Oh, Hey Ash, sorry about that," She chuckled, not in a playful way, but more in a rude... making-fun-of-someone way.
"Just give me my phone," My stomach had already dropped, I was scared of what she might have seen... I don't have anything... questionable on my phone, but I was worried she might not like my wallpaper taste or something.
"Sure, after you tell me who your girlfriend is," She laughed, showing my homescreen to me. My home wallpaper had been a group photo of me, Lin, and Cameron for a while; I thought having wallpapers of you and your friends was normal!
I grabbed my phone back and shoved it in my bag quickly, "We're not dating, and he's not a girl!" I yelled, assuming she was talking about Lin.
"Oh, my bad," She replied sarcastically. Emily finally walked away after that.
Looking for my mom's car, I got a text notification from Lin: "HEY, SORRY FOR THE LATE REPLY. YEAH LET'S GO GET ICE CREAM. YOU'RE PAYING." They added a heart at the end since that's what they've always done when texting me; I sent a heart back, platonically of course, nothing more.
I sat on the curb for a bit, still looking for my mom's car, and after what seemed like forever, Lin pulled up.
"Lin, why are you driving? You don't even have your licence-"
"Shhh, Sky said I could drive, you know I'm not a reckless driver or anything!" They replied, leaning over to the passenger door and flinging it open for me, "Get in, come on, I'll drive us to Robins Basket, but you're still paying~"
I sigh playfully and climb into the Nassin, "Okay, fine,"
After we were both buckled, Lin started to drive away from the rink, out of the parking lot.
We were both sort of quiet the whole way there, but I kind of expected the first thing Lin said to me:
"So what's up, you're off today, did something happen at practice? I thought you liked ice skating, but I'm sure it wasn't skating, someone said something, didn't they? Who was it? What did they say? Should I use a gun or a bat to end-"
"Shut up Lin, you're not going to end anyone! It's nothing, just some jerks again..."
"Again!? Ash, you've never told me about any of this!? It's happened multiple times!? Oh my god, was it the same person? I'll make sure they're six feet under by midnight-"
"Oh my god, lay off on killing people, it's just this one girl named Emily, it's not even a big deal,"
Lin didn't respond for a few minutes, and then finally, they sighed. "So are you gonna tell me what happened or what?"
He turned at the stoplight and glanced at me.
I sighed; There was no way I was escaping this.
"Yeah, fine. She just snatched my phone earlier and made fun of my wallpaper, that's all."
