Jennie was wearing white. She stands opposite the arch of the door of Notre Dame Cathedral in France. She and Lisa got married in New York three months ago but they will get married again where they first planned it.
"Wifey, can I just tell you, you are so beautiful. If you weren't my best friend, I would have died of envy. And can I just tell you too that I am so happy for you. All right, I will stop talking or I'll start crying." Rosé handed her a bouquet of white roses. "Wifey, you make sure I will catch that, okay?"
"Hubby, I'll throw the roses to you, okay?" She responded with a smile to her best friend's instruction. "And, Rosie, thank you very much." Her best friend organized the wedding, but she was thankful for more than that. She was thanking her for a lifetime of friendship.
Rosé smiled and thought how beautiful she was too with her peaches and cream complexion and wavy brownish hair. She turned her back to return to her position as maid of honor.
Mr. Kim approached her. Jennie saw that there were tears in his eyes and he was still handsome despite his age. He smiled at her. "My daughter, if you want to change your mind again, I have my car waiting outside." The old man joked.
"Appa!" She protested but she was smiling at her father's attempt to joked. "I think you forgot something. I'm married to her already." She reminded her father.
The smile he gave her was more meaningful. "And it was what I have always wanted. You see, my dear daughter, I have always known that you two are perfect for each other." She took hee father's arm before he could speak again.
They walked together to the altar where Lisa was there, waiting for her. She looked at the man next to her. In his white best man tuxedo, Jungkook looked like a prince. She smiled at the man before turning her gaze to Lisa, her wife.
I love you in this way because I don't know any other way of loving but this..
The lyrics of that song, adapted from Pablo Nerruda's poetry, soar inside the church. Jennie first heard it on the wedding CD of another acquaintance. She borrowed it for this occasion.
"Take care of my daughter." Mr. Kim gave her hand to Lisa in the tradition of giving the daughter's hand in marriage.
"I promise." Lisa held her hand as if she would never let go again.
She looked up at Lisa smiling at her. Their eyes promised the vows that they would later exchange.
"I now pronounce you husband and wife." The priest finally announced.
People clapped inside the church after the wedding. Some were crying as the two kissed on the altar. They too, waited nine years for this. And it was worth the wait. It was beautiful.
Lisa lifted her mouth from hers. "Did I already tell you how beautiful you are and how much I love you?"
"Well, not in the last thirty minutes and only because the priest silenced you." Jennie answered with a laugh."But you can tell me again."
"How about if I just kiss you again?"
"Oh. I was thinking it would be so much nicer if you did both."
Lisa laughed. "You know, you really have the most brilliant ideas, Mrs. Jennie Ruby Jane Kim-Manoban."
"I know. I know. I.."
"I love you." Lisa said and then she lowered her lips to kiss her once again.
