Jennie still doesn't know what role Nancy plays in Lisa's life now. According to her sources, people she asked simply, the two are just friends although not because that's what the woman wants.
And because it was obvious to her that Nancy wanted something else, she dressed up with a vengeance for her Thursday dinner with Lisa.
She and Lisa will meet at The Terrace, a restaurant at the Grand Hyatt Seoul Hotel for dinner. She lived in that very hotel for the duration of her stay in Korea. Because she has nowhere to live. Their house in Seocho-gu has been sold since her father decided to live in America as well.
She saw Lisa immediately when she entered the restaurant. The woman changed her clothes into something casual. She looked so much younger, so much like the Lisa she first fell in love with. Her heart was pounding in her chest especially when she looked at her. She was glad that her shoes were medium high because otherwise, she might not be able to walk anymore.
Lisa stood up to help her to sit. After placing their order, she started asking about her businesses and further plans.
She carefully observed the woman while speaking. Lisa is confident while answering her questions. She was not surprised that she seemed to know down to the last details about all her businesses as well as her subsidiaries. She remembers that the woman memory is almost photographic so she doesn't need notes for financial figures and other data.
As she said, all the transactions and procedures of her company are well-documented, so before their food has been served, her official aim with Lisa is over.
She wanted to ask something but she drank first some red wine before she got the courage.
"Lisa, are you happy?"
Lisa looked at her straight in the eyes while answering. She had such beautiful cat like eyes, brown eyes framed by really long lashes. Those eyes haunted her after that night. Asking her if she was happy. I think it's the first time someone has asked such a question. Everybody was interested in everything about her life except her happiness. Despite herself, she started warming up a little towards Jennie.
Lisa is still cautious in answering. "I suppose. I have everything I want."
She nodded before drinking wine again. "I'm glad." She turned her gaze to the other table so that Lisa wouldn't see that she was about to cry at her answer. Stop being emotional! You're a seductress, not a martyr in a Korean novela, she said to herself.
She smiled as she faced the woman again. Fortunately, she was saved for a while by making conversation when their order arrived.
As it turned-out, she ordered wrong. She was so preoccupied, she couldn't ask the waiter to remove the bacon from her favorite pasta dish. To top it all, a handful of large flakes of bacon instead of bits were added to the sauce. She has been a semi-vegetarian since high school. She does not eat pork, beef and chicken. She only eats seafood and vegetables.
"Do you want to order again or should we just trade our pasta? Have fettuccine in pesto sauce." Lisa offered when she noticed the food placed in front of her and the reaction on Jennie's face.
"I will trade but is it okay?" Actually, she is not very hungry and can just order again, but she feels more intimate if she eats Lisa's order. Besides, she liked the idea of Lisa still remembered that she doesn't eat meat.
She trade their food which signaled a temporary truce of sorts especially on Lisa's part. It was probably the effect of the red wine that was already on her second or third glass, she loosened up and it looked like her guard was down a little. That was the opportunity Jennie was waiting for.
