Chapter 10

Dalia hummed to herself, awkwardly spinning down the hall with a new bag of fruits in her hand, the shoes and bottom of her skirt were both still drenched. The front door swung open almost silently, which was a good thing for her. She silently slipped her shoes off then tiptoed through the main area.

The loud humming of the sewing machine covered the sound of her feet, Anita's silhouette showed through the hanging fabrics. A small sigh of relief escaped Dalia's lips, as she gently placed the grocery bag on the dining table.

"Hola Dalia."

Anita's voice caused her to stop dead in her tracks, a string of quiet curses came from Dalia as she looked up at her sister. Who now stood outside the sewing room with her hands on her hips and a raised eyebrow. "So, going to tell me where you were today?" Anita wondered, sitting down at the kitchen table across from her. Dalia stared down at the ground meekly shaking her head.

"Well Maria told me you were with a boy."

At this Dalia started fake coughing then slamming her hand on her chest to stall. Trying to think of something to say to counter her sister. "Don't worry, I'm not mad about it." Anita smiled, taking the fruit from the table and placing it onto a basket.

"You're not?!" Dalia exclaimed in surprise, dropping the apple from her hand. "No. Pepe is a nice boy! You two would be lovely together!" Anita grinned widely, but Dalia's smile dropped and was instead replaced with a more confused look. "Pepe?..."

"Sí! Maria told me all about how you two connected last night!"

A nervous laugh escaped Dalia's lips, as she tossed the paper bag away. "Ah...maravilloso." She muttered, removing her scarf and hanging it alongside the fabrics. "Sí! So where did he take you today?" Anita smiled, turning and raising an eyebrow teasingly at her.

"Um...nowhere! Es un secreto."

Dalia lied, walking over and placing new flowers into the vase at the table. Anita rolled her eyes but nodded looking off into the distance dreamily.

"I remember when Bernardo and I would do that. Running off where no one knew, besarse bajo un cocotero."

"I more remember helping you through a window most nights, and listening to Bernardos terrible poetry." Anita slapped her gently in a playful manner.

"Ay, ay, ay! ¡Me estoy muriendo!" She fell into a chair dramatically, Anita laughed but flicked bits of water onto Dalia's face.

"Now, go put the laundry out." Anita instructed, handing Dalia a woven basket filled with wet clothes.

"Gracias!" Anita called after Dalia, as she walked out of the window onto the fire escape, beginning to pin the wet clothes on the line. As she pinned the clothes, her mouth sang a gentle tune.

I've been watching you

For sometime

Can't stop staring at those ocean eyes.

Burning cities

And Napalm skies

15 flares inside those ocean eyes

Your ocean eyes

Riff sighed, falling back onto the old holed couch as a cloud of dust exploded around him. He burst into a coughing fit, but ignored it as he stared out the dirty window at the setting sun. The only thing he could think about was the sight of her, the sound of her giggles, and how she had run in the waves splashing both him and herself. At one point, Riff had tossed her into the water himself as a joke nm. Which resulted in him being pulled down.

A small chuckle escaped his lips at the memory, as he removed his soaking wet shirt and tossed it into the corner. "What are you doing to me doll?"

No fair

You really know how to make me cry

When you give me those ocean eyes

I'm scared

I've never fallen from quite this high

Falling into your ocean eyes

Those ocean eyes

Dalia placed the empty basket on the floor beside her, as she leaned over the railing of the fire escape with a stupidly large smile on her lips. Her heart was racing as her head was filled with thoughts of the day's events.

They had spent at least 5 hours at the beach, he had made her dance with her again on the shoreline until their legs were drenched. He then threw her into the water, deciding it would be fine if she was completely wet and it wasn't just her bottom half. Dalia felt a little giggle escape her lips as butterflies flew through her entire body. She shook her head, but couldn't stop her cheeks from turning a bright shade of red.

I've been walking through a world gone blind

Can't stop thinking of your diamond mind

Careful creature made friends with time

He left her lonely with a diamond mind

And those ocean eye

"Riff? You don't seem excited today?"

He shook himself out of his thoughts, noticing Gratzi who was sitting on his lap and touching his undershirt. Riff glanced down at the beer bottles littering his apartment, well that explained his missing memory of how he got here. "I'm fine, just tired. Let's cut this short." He muttered, picking her up by the waist and lifting her to her feet.

"Are you sure, I couldn't interest you at all?" Gratzi winked, wrapping her arms around his neck and staring up at her with a smile. Riff looked away and moved her arms away from him, escaping the uncomfortable embrace. "No. Go home Gratz." She stomped her foot and crossed her arms, leaving the apartment in a huff. But he ignored her and collapsed on the couch with a hand on his forehead trying to stop the room from spinning.

No fair

You really know how to make me cry

When you gimme those ocean eyes

I'm scared

I've never fallen from quite this high

Falling' into your ocean eyes

Those ocean eyes
