Only a dozen people were upstairs, and most of them were in smaller groups off to the side talking or dancing. There were stereos that were playing Harry Styles Golden, and there was much less noise and shouting then there had been downstairs. The atmosphere up there was a lot more peaceful. There was another bar upstairs, though there weren't as many options as there were downstairs.
Ranboo needed a drink. His nerves were shot at this point and he wasn't about to spend the rest of his time with Tommy in a paranoid frenzy.
He let go of Tommy and poured a couple shots. One of them he only filled a third of the way. He realized still had to drive them back home. He handed Tommy the full one and downed his own before Tommy even said anything.
"Ranboo maybe we should—"
"No. We can stay." Ranboo said, interrupting him. He knew Clay had probably come back by now, and Ranboo didn't think he was in the mental state to deal with his worried brother.
"Ranboo! Join us!" A voice called from across the room
Ranboo turned around, seeing a decent sized group in a circle around a table. Ranboo saw bottles of different drinks and cups set on the table, along with a deck of cards.
"What are you guys playing?
"King's Cup."
Ranboo frowned, glancing at Tommy.
"Uh, I don't know… we might head out in a bit."
"Oh, come on, just one round! We haven't seen you out in so long, and you always dominated at these games!" They pressed.
Yeah, that's because I was a heavy drinker.
Ranboo laughed, uncertain, his eyes searching for Bill or Aimsey, someone who knew that he needed stern guidance, but he knew they weren’t there. The only person who was there was Tommy.
"I-I don't know."
"Oh stop being a pussy and get in the circle." They said, grabbing his hand.
"Ranboo—" he heard Tommy say in a small voice. But Ranboo had already been pulled into the crowd.
Ranboo sighed, his gut sinking as his willpower broke.
"Okay fine. One round. That's it."
They cheered and the game began, each of them taking turns flipping over a card and doing the command that was correlated with the face.
One round turned into two and two turned into three. After the fourth round, Ranboo was all but wasted.
His mind was fuzzy, but he felt unstoppable. He was seeing double, but who gave a shit? He threw back another drink as the person to his left did, chugging down the whiskey and not stopping until they did, hating, yet loving the burn it caused his throat.
He grabbed the bottle of absinthe, checking the alcohol contents. 89.9% alcohol. He poured some of it in a shot glass. He was tempted to drink it straight, but he wasn't going to risk the burn to his mouth. He poured cold water in the glass as well until he had a full shot.
A hand gently placed itself on his shoulder and Ranboo turned to find Tommy, a concerned look on his face.
"Ranboo, you—"
Ranboo shut him up, pinching his face in his hand. It pursed Tommy's lips, pulling the skin around his jaw and defining his cheek bones.
"Need to stop? Probably," Ranboo said, letting go and grabbing the shot. Tommy reached for the bottle in an attempt to stop Ranboo, but Ranboo held his wrist. He pulled Tommy closer, away from the alcohol.
Tommy looked up at him, his bright blue eyes pleading.
"I'm not the only one drinking that, cutie." Ranboo said with a smile. What the hell was he saying? He needed to get Tommy away before he made a fool of himself in front of him.
"Ranboo! Draw a card!'
Ranboo set his eyes back to the middle. He let go of Tommy and picked the first card on the top of the deck. It was a seven and Ranboo's arm shot up, as did everyone else's. Some girl across from him was the last one to put a hand up, so she took a shot.
The black lining of his vision barely concerned him as the same person across from him drew a two. She smiled and pointed at Ranboo, who was then obligated to take a shot or lose the game, and the last one wasn't an option in his mind.
He threw back the shot of absinthe; it burned like hell because he hadn't diluted it enough. It tasted like black licorice once you got past the sting, however it probably would have tasted better with syrup or sugar.
He pinched his eyes shut, forcing himself not to cough from the pain it caused his throat. He slammed the glass on the table and shook away the sting.
Everyone cheered, but Tommy's eyebrows creased with worry.
"Ranboo, Clay told me—" the Brit stopped as Ranboo cracked an eye open, peering at him.
"That I had a drinking problem?" Ranboo finished for him.
Tommy nodded.
"He wasn't wrong," Ranboo muttered, knowing he was far beyond help at this point.
God, Clay is going to kill me. I promised… He felt a lump of sorrow rise in his throat. Clay would be so worried and upset.
The black got wider, swallowing up his peripheral vision. But there was no way in hell he was stopping now. He didn't want to feel. He would go until he couldn't anymore.
Tommy shook his head and turned away. Ranboo felt his heart clench as he watched Tommy walk away from him, his arms wrapped around himself.
"Tom…" Ranboo whispered. He started to go after him, but someone grabbed hold of him.
"Let's fucking go Ranboo!" A guy on his left said, clinging to his arm.
Ranboo had never once thrown up from alcohol, but his stomach rolled in protest of all the drinks and no food.
Shit. Tommy, wait. Don't be mad.
Ranboo blinked, trying to clear his blurred vision. He kept his eyes trained on the stairs, waiting to see a curly head of blonde hair come back up in a rage and pull him back… but nothing of the sort happened.
It was the person who had dragged him into the group's turn again and they drew a four. Everyone went to the ground, the last person to do so having to drink.
Ranboo was pulled down by the guy who was attached to his arm. Ranboo fell over top of him, and the guy grinned, looking Ranboo up and down. The darkness finally consumed Ranboo's vision as he felt a hand in his hair.
And at that moment, Ranboo blacked out.
