Chapter 2 // Football Tryouts

(Lucas POV)

It was near the end of my first day and Dustin Mike & Will convinced me to take football tryouts with them. I admit I'm nervous as I haven't played football since I was around 12-13. It is not the first day I was expecting but I was glad. I already made some friends and now I'm trying out for the football team. Hawkins is the perfect place to have a fresh start. I also met a very pretty girl in class. Her name was Max and she offered the seat next to me and even let me borrow a pencil. But I realise I can't date her as she has very protective brothers that are now my friends so it would be wrong to go against them. It doesn't mean we can't be friends though.

(Max POV)

I was sitting in the bleachers with El and Suzie waiting for the boys to begin tryouts. They were talking about the boys as I sat there in silence. "So what do you think about the new boy Max?" El asks. "Huh?" I respond confused. "Like what do you think about him? Is he cute? Is he nice?" El asks. "I thought you were dating my idiot stepbrother" I say smiling. "Yes I still am dating your idiot stepbrother and I just want to know what you think about the new boy" She says. "Why?" I ask her. She looks at me like 'just answer the question' and I let out a soft laugh. "Ok ok ok fine I'll answer but one thing.." I say looking at El & Suzie. "You can not tell my brothers what I said even if they are your boyfriends!" I say. They both nod in unison. I sigh. "Well I don't really know him yet but he seems sweet and kind plus he's very attractive" I say blushing slightly. "Aww Little Maxie blushing" El teases. I shove her jokingly. "Seems like love at first sight" Suzie smirks. I shake my head laughing. "Anyway where are the boys there going to be late?" I say looking at the field. There was a ton of people trying out already and the coaches watching them. "Speaking of the devils" Suzie says pointing at the boys walking out. I look as I see them wearing football gear ready to try out. I stare at Lucas as he has his shirt slowly lifted up revealing a 6 pack. he's attractive. I feel myself blushing again.

"Stop drooling Maxie.." El teases me. "I put my head down embarrassed. "Shut up El!" I say looking at her next to me. El and Suzie laugh and I shove them jokingly.

(Lucas POV)

"Bro I'm so nervous.." I admit walking with my new friends. "Yeah same..." Dustin says. "I feel like I'm shitting bricks" Mike says. We look at him with weirded out faces. "It's a analogy..."He says rolling his eyes at us. "Will are you ready?" I ask him noticing he was quiet. Will nods with a small smile. I smile back at him. "Oh fuck.." Mike says. "Huh?" I look at him confused. "Yep fuck..." Dustin adds on. "What's wrong?" Will  asks confused. "Our girlfriends are watching us.." Mike answers. "Who?" I ask. "Them" Dustin says pointing at girls in the stands. I look up and see Max with two other girls. We lock eyes and I wave at her. I see her smile and wave back. "Woah dude!" Mike says glaring at me. "What?" I ask looking at him. "Why you locking eyes and waving at our sister dude?" Dustin says. "I can't wave at my friend..?" I furrow my eyebrows at them. "Yeah he's right guys stop being so overprotective there only friends" Will speaks up. Dustin and Mike nod in unison. "Yeah your right Will sorry Lucas were just protective because of-" Dustin begins to speak. Will quickly puts his hand on his mouth to stop talking. "Because of what?" I look at Dustin suspicious. "It don't matter and plus we're late so let's start trying out yeah?" Mike suggests and I nod still suspicious. We meet the coaches and begin to tryout.

The tryouts went well in my opinion. I showcased my speed and accuracy to the best of my ability. I look at the coaches after every throw and they looked impressed. The other boys were good also. We all walk out the field to the bleachers feeling good about ourselves. We walk up the stands to the girls. "Holy shit your did so good Mike" The brunette girls says throwing herself on Mike. "Thank you babe" Mike says kissing her. I look at Dustin and the other brunette girl hugging. Then I look at Max still sitting. I decide to sit next to her. "Hey Mr Quarterback" Max teases pointing a finger in my chest. I roll my eyes laughing. "You looked so good.." She says. I look at her and I furrow my eyebrows. "I looked so good?" I tease her. I see her cheeks turn red. "N-no I meant as a football player" She says turning even more red. I chuckle. "Relax Max I was joking I know what you meant" I reassure her. She lets a sigh of relief. "So your going to become a annoying jock now I guess" Max says. "No no way" I laugh. "I doubt they will even pick me for the team" I continued. "What?" Dustin says intruding our conversation. "Are you kidding Lucas?" Mike adds on. "Yeah you have to be joking" Will adds on also. "Even though I don't know football I can tell there going to pick you" The brunette girl says from next to Mike. "Really?" I say surprised. I know I did good but I didn't think I blew there minds in any way. "Yeah bro you were easily the best player out there" Mike says. I feel a smile creep up on my face. "Hey what about you guys? You all did amazing" I say smiling at them. They all smile back. "I don't why but I have a good feeling about this" Mike says smiling. "Yeah same" We all say in unison smiling.

We all get up from the stands and walk out the school. As I'm about to start walking away Mike grabs my arm. "Hey bro want to come to my house and hang out?" He asks me. I widen eyes. "Really? We've only known each other for a day" I say confused. "Yeah bro you seem cool and we want to hang out with you more" Dustin says. "What they said" Will finishes smiling. I feel a smile crept up on my face. "Yeah sure why not" I say. "Yes were leaving now come with us" Dustin says. "Can you send me your address? I have to go to my house and tell my parents first" I say. "Yeah sure bro what's your number?" Dustin says pulling his phone out. I pull my phone out and I give him my number. "Ok cool bro text me when your coming" Dustin says hugging me. "Yeah it won't be long I'm just going to tell my parents I'm going around a friends house" I say handshaking Mike and Will. "Alright see you later bro" They say going to there car. I wait until they go to finally let the fear set in. Shit I didn't tell my parents I would be late home trying out for the football team. I sigh as I get ready to embrace the wrath of aggressiveness of my father when I get home.
