Chapter 16 | Revealing things...

(Lucas POV)

I gulp as the words leave my mouth which I've kept hidden for awhile.

"It was my dad..." I said. Max eyes widen immediately.

"Fuck" I hear her mutter. She slowly rubs her hand against her face. I grab her other hand and trace my thumb over it.

"It's fine max..." I re assure her. She shakes her head.

"No it's not ok...I-I had a feeling he did something to you and I did nothing.." She says as a tear slips out. I immediately cradle her face wiping her tear with my thumb. I shake my head at her. How could she blame herself for not helping when she didn't really know what was happening in my house?.

"No...no no it's fine I didn't tell you even when you tried to help" I reassure her. She nods slowly as she rests her head on my shoulder. I sigh in content as I twirl her hair with my finger. I've only known her for a few days and for some reason I want her to stay by my side for the rest of my life

I also feel a bit relieved.

I finally talked to someone about what's going on with my home that I have been keeping inside for so long and dealing with the pain myself but saying it out loud it made me feel much better. Made me feel relief.

We just sit in here silence until a couple of footsteps causing us to lift our heads up. I look and see Dustin, Will, Mike and there parents also. I feel my heart spike up intimidated by there sudden presence. I feel a soft hand squeeze mine in reassures. I look at max as she looks back at me with a smile. I send her a smile back.

Them eyes...I could seriously get lost in them for days.

I guess we were staring into each other as someone grabs my shoulder getting my attention making me jump.

"Shit...sorry" Mike says.

"It's fine" I respond croakily sending him a small smile. He smiles back.

"Anyway down to business...who did this to u?" The older man asks with glasses. I gulp as everyone looks at me for the answer. I close my eyes and reassure myself that it's fine to tell. I open my eyes and lift my head back up.

"Umm..I-I-it w-w-was my dad" I stutter out scared by there reactions. I look at them as all there eyes Widen.

"How did you know?" Will asks Max noticing her nonchalant response to the statement.

"He told me before you guys came in" she explains while she shrugs. Wills nods in response darting his attention back to me. I look down slightly not knowing what to say now. I have never in my eighteen years on this earth have ever felt so embarrassed. I think they all sensed my nerves as they left the room leaving me and max here alone.

"You know you can leave too max..." I say lifting my head looking at her next to me on a seat. She nods.

"I know but I feel slightly guilty..." She responds. I shake my head at her.

"Max you couldn't have know I didn't tell anyone I promise you that" I say cradling her face. She doesn't respond.

"So go home with your family get some rest and come visit me tomorrow ok I'll be fine" I tell her. She nods as she wraps her arms around my shoulder softly. I embrace into the warm hug as I feel my breathing go down slowly. I feel a sudden calmness and safeness in her arms and it was new.

Something I never felt.

After a minute she pulls away from the hug as she looks at me worried.

"I'll be fine max I promise just please come back tomorrow?" I ask her.

"Y-yeah of course" She responds faintly.

"Ok well until next time gingerbread" I tease her with a slight smirk. She rolls her eyes as a small smile appears on her face.

"Shut up stalker" Max teases back walking towards the door. But before she leaves she turns around and waves a small goodbye and it makes my heart melt. I smile at her as she leaves the room. Now she was gone I look up at the roof stuck in my thoughts.

Time jump (a few hours)

-Max pov-

I walk into the hospital room number a23. There was a skinny dark skinned lady with curls. She had bruises scratches and cuts all over her body and face. This is Lucas's mum. I felt so bad looking at her. It looked like something out of a horror movie. Lucas dad was truly a sick man and she's glad he'll be going to jail soon.

I get snapped out of my thoughts when the woman wakes up with wide eyes breathing heavy. I quickly walk to the side of the bed next to her.

"Hey hey hey your ok" I try to reassure. She just looks at me breathing heavy. I didn't know what to do so I pressed the red button next to her bed. A minute passes as doctors flood the room quickly. They quickly walk to the bed and grab her hand.

"Listen mam I know your panicking right now but I need to acknowledge where you are?" The doctor says. She shakes her head at the doctor.

"I...I-i-I don't k—know wwhere i am" Lucas mum says.

"Your in the hospital mam and your safe...your safe now" The doctor says rubbing her hand. Lucas mum nods as her breathing slowly slows down. I stand there awkwardly in the corner not knowing what to say or do.

"Who are you misses?" The doctor says to me. I look up as my eyes widen. Who am I? Ummm Max Mayfield and I have no relation to this woman. No that's to creepy let me try another solution.

"Umm..I'm Lucas Sinclair's girlfriend we got to Hawkins school together and I just came on here to check on his mother for him" I lie with a convincing little smile appear on my face. The woman scrunches her eyebrows at me confused.

"Wait where is my son wow!" She booms out making me jump.

"H-h-he's in the hospital too just a few rooms down he's currently sleeping though" I explain. Lucas mum stands up from the bed trying to unplug all the machines attached to her. The doctor quickly stops her and lays her back on the bed.

"Listen mam you have to stay here for a while you have a couple broken bones and cuts and bruises you must heal before you leave this room mam" He says. Sue scoffs clearly visibly annoyed.

"So wheres his piece of shit dad now?" She asks me. I gulp.

"Umm..he should be on his way to jail just waiting for my family to inform me when" I say. She slowly nods as she rests on the pillow. The doctor sends me a look of look after her and leaves the room leaving just me and the broken woman on our own.

"So girlfriend huh?" Lucas mum says. I feel a slight taint of redness appear on my cheeks as I blush visibly. She chuckles.

"That's funny because Lucas told me he doesn't have a girlfriend and doesn't intend to having one soon so who are you really?" She says glaring at me. I gulp as I sit down at the chair next to her as I get ready to explain everything to her...
