Chapter 44

Enala

The team left early in the morning. No matter how hung over they were, coach wouldn't let them waste a day with the match so close. Their first match against New Zealand was in 2 days and they couldn't afford to lose.

When the boys cleared, I found Deepak sitting silently on the couch, thinking. The house was quiet. With Rahul gone for practice fluffy was also sound asleep in his little dog bed.

I wonder what Deepak is thinking about.

I slowly made my way into the kitchen and made him a nice hot cup of coffee and sat beside him giving him the coffee mug.

He took it from my hand and gave me slight smile.

"Are you okay?", I asked looking at him, worried.

He had so much fun last night. Did something happen?

Something I did not know?

My heart raced.

Deepak looked into my eyes and nodded.

"You can talk to me if something is wrong sweetie", i said placing my hand on his.

He took a deep breath and turned to me, placing the coffee mug on the table.

"It's just.. ugh! I hate this feeling!", he groaned.

I gave him a reassuring look encouraging him to tell me more.

"The match is in 2 days. The boys invited me to come watch. But, I don't think they want me back in the team Nala! I mean ofcourse they asked me to come back and everything but do they really mean it? Am I worthy of even going back?", he said tears rolling down his face.

I felt bad. This boy was one of the best the team had and watching him doubt himself like this is honestly very heart breaking.

"Deepak, honey. I cannot say I understand how you feel but honey they are your friends! Your teammates. When they say they want you back I'm sure they mean it ".

"That's not how it works Nala! You wont understand ", he sighed and got off the couch walking into the kitchen to keep the mug, still full.

It stung to hear him say that.

I know i don't really understand, but I'm trying.

"Get dressed I'll drop you to work", he said making his way up the stairs.

I thought seeing his team mates would be good for him, but this. Whatever this mood he's in, I don't know how to get him out of it.

The car ride to the cafe was silent. Him lost his thoughts and me lost in mine. He didn't say a word when I got out and drove off.

I went into the cafe knowing how my day is going to be.

Deepak has become such a huge part of my life. Even thinking about him hurting makes me feel so horrible that cannot do anything about it.

The cafe was in full swing with Shawn working the tables and Anna in the kitchen. When Shawn saw me he knew something was up.

He immediately ran to me and hugged me.

"It'll be alright poggie. What ever it is that you're going through, you'll be fine. I'm here", he said breaking the hug.

I nodded and went into the kitchen.

Half way through the day, i couldn't stop thinking about how disturbed Deepak was. So i decided to call him

The phone rang but he did not pick.

He usually always picks.

I tired once more.

Nothing.

So i finally decided to call Arjun to make sure everything is alright.

"Hey Nala!! All good?", he asked.

"Yeah I guess. Is Deepak there?", I asked.

"Umm yeah maybe"

"What does that mean?", i asked.

"He's here nala. He's just in a meeting right now".

"Oh client?"

"Yeah... um no! Ugh i cannot lie to you! He's not here. He told me he's meeting aria for lunch and left about an hour ago", he said.

Aria?

I could feel my heart getting heavy.

I know he said I have nothing to worry about her and honestly I was beginning to like her but..

I called him once again.

This time he picked.

"What!", he said.

"I'm sorry Deepak. I just called to check upon you", I said, tears already forming in my eyes.

"No need for that. I'm fine! I'm out, I'm busy", he said cutting the call.

Tears rolled down my eyes.

Is he confiding in her?

Does he think I won't understand him.

Or maybe he's just more comfortable with her.

Yeah, whatever it is, no matter what, she'll always be the first one.

Im writing after so long!! Extremely short chapter but I hope y'all like it. I'm changing the course of the story so hopefully it goes fine.
