Winter Poetry Contest 2022 - First Entry

Topic: Whelve, It's a verb. It means: to bury something deep; to hide

Poem:

Winters, with weather cold, harsh and dry

Like my heart that froze the day you left

Can't loathe or resent you, wonder why

Just too painful to whelve all the cleft

Winters, with long nights and short days

Like my mornings that lack your presence

For warmth there aren't yolk-yellow rays

Previously exciting life now lacks essence

Winters, with jackets, sweaters and mitten

Like my feelings that like to stay shielded

Years later, still find myself guilt stricken

Sorrow locked in cages that seem gilded

Winters, with no fields of bright flowers

Like my thoughts that seem sad and dull

Feel like I am wasting away precious hours

Like a ship sailing on sea without a hull

Winter, the season when I said a goodbye

To our bittersweet bond a couple years ago

Now winters remind me of where you lie

Winter falls, sky's dried tears come as snow
