"I wish the goblin king would come and take me away and make me his queen!"

Nothing.

You sighed at your last attempt to contact the goblin king had failed. Another attempt to summon the Goblin King- another failure. If only he was real. Life itself was so boring you needed more, as selfish as it sounded but you craved something more than the dull routine you were stuck in. Every fairy tale you have ever read and attempted to make real, had ignored you, leaving you trapped in a bedroom with your very real, very loud baby brother.

You loved Max. You really did. But the nonstop crying made you question your sanity. You flopped backwards closing your eyes wishing once more that you were taken away. But upon opening your eyes it was no surprise; you were still there. Still stuck. Though the silence was cut short by your brother's cries.

Kicking your feet upwards to make yourself stand you reluctantly walked into your brother Max's room. Reaching into his crib you picked him up questioning what on earth could he have possibly wanted. Max was red faced and furious, tiny chubby fists flailing in the air.

"Do you want a story? Milk? Come on max please I have things to do. I just need a little bit of sleep"

Nothing changed as he carried on with his furious wailing. Maybe a story would soothe him. You carried him to the bed setting him down and picking up a worn copy of Cinderella. You opened the book and began to read hoping the words you have read thousands of times would tucker him out. Although as you read, your mind began to drift. What did Cinderella have that you didn't. What made her deserving of an adventure. Why did she get magic and transformation and a night at the ball and all you had was a baby brother who wailed as though he were being paid for it. Lost in thought you were brought back to reality by Max's shriek.

It had gotten to the point where you could bear it no longer.

The book made a loud clap sound and you slammed it shut.

"Oh max! I've had enough of your crying. I-I wish the goblins would come and take you away. Right now"
You picked him up and walked over to his crib setting him back down once again. The storm outside began to rage and the droplets of water pounded against the glass instead of the light tapping instead of the light taps moments ago.

Placing the blanket over him you ignored his wails, walking away from him towards the door. Except you never made it to the door. Max's crying had stopped. Whispers and skittering were heard. Something shuffled. Your heart lurched. Did he get out of his crib? No it couldn't be he was much to young to possibly muster up enough strength to push himself out. Too small. Too weak.

You spun around and began walking towards the crib. As if there were some monsters that jump out. You paused slightly after each step.

"Max? Max I'm sorry I didn't mean to yell."

Finally, you had reached the crib. Peering down the red blanket was perfectly in place. Yet your hand trembled as you reached down to grab it. The cotton fabric was lifted slowly and yet Max was not there.

"What th-"
Before you could do anything else the storm outside seemed to get even worse. Footsteps were heard echoing around the room. Bam.  An owl slammed against the window, wings beating frantically against the window as if it wanted to get inside. It seemed so determined. The noise was too much. You stumbled backwards, suddenly overwhelmed by the noise, by fear, by the impossible reality unfolding around you.

Another loud noise came as the window burst open letting rain and leaves inside. Only the owl was gone now, replaced by a tall man stepping through the frame as if it were a doorway made for him. His presence was cold and electric. His eyes seemed so cold but yet there was something so magical about him. You very easily should have been terrified. Yet. You weren't.

"Who are you and what are you doing here an-"

"You talk to much." His voice was cutting and smooth.

"What you should be asking is where your brother is. or rather you should even be thanking me. I don't do this for everyone you know"

You were stunned, your eyes glanced to the side scanning for any weapon to defend yourself. Adventure was one thing. But a break in from a thug in tight sparkly pants was another.

"Thank you?"

"You're welcome."

"No. That's not what I meant and you know it. Where is my brother?"

He shook his head, almost bored, and pulled out a crystal ball. He played with it ignoring anything you had to say. If anything happened to max your parents would have your head. You were supposed to be his protector. The one who looked after him when your parents could not.

"I took him because you asked me too. Forget about him (Y/N) and I'll give you this. Its a crystal nothing less nothing more. But if you turn it this way. It will show you your dreams."

Your dreams? Your arm moved on it's own towards it. His smile sharpened, almost in a triumphant manner. It was as if he already won. Though there was a hint of disgust within them as well.

He pulled the crystal back.

"Though this isn't a gift for girls who sit around and tend to whiny babes. Forget about him, and it shall be yours"

Snatching your arm back you glared at him, anger began to burn through your fear and once again demanded to know where max was.

"Where.Is.Max."

"He's there in my castle just beyond my labyrinth. Though I assure you it isn't for you. Give up now you won't even remember this. A life without a crying baby."

Honestly? Fuck this guy. Though his outfit was something straight out of a fantasy movie and he reeked of adventure. But you were determined to get your brother back.

"No.  I'll do whatever it takes to get him back"

"How cruel," he muttered. "A moment ago, you wished him away. Now you want him back?"

"Yes."

Your world faded around you as the air became hard to breathe. Colors bled and twisted until you stood somewhere else entirely. Under a sky the color of fresh blood. The Goblin King leaned against a towering grandfather clock, watching you.

"You have 13 hours in which to complete my labyrinth or your brother will become one of us. Forever."

You watched as he disappeared into thin air.

You swallowed hard. Insults crossed your mind, but they weren't going to help you now. This was the adventure you had been begging the world to give you. But if you failed, Max would be gone forever. Some adventure. Really funny universe.

You took a breath, steadying yourself,

Standing around wasn't going to get you nowhere so you took a deep breath and took a step forward.

Towards the labyrinth.
