"We need to move!" Soap was the first to react, rising swiftly, just as the enemy hurled some kind of gas grenade into the building they were occupying.
"Fall back! This way!" Coughing and struggling to breathe, they frantically searched for the nearest window to escape. Alejandro, Soap, and Ghost stumbled upon a window, and Alejandro was the first to leap through, closely followed by Soap. As Ghost made his jump, he tripped and collided with the wall, his head taking a hard hit.
Soap, swearing under his breath, dashed towards Ghost and grabbed him around the waist, hoisting him up.
"You alright, Ghost?" Soap inquired with a touch of concern, but they had no time to linger. Ghost's vision was blurred, and his head throbbed, suggesting he might have sustained a significant head injury from the fall.
"Ghost?"
"Yeah... fuck, my head hurts."
"You get injured like this on every mission, LT?" Soap asked as he helped Ghost descend a hill, maintaining their pace and trying not to cause any further harm to Ghost.
"Army's right behind us!" Soap called ahead to Alejandro, who just noticed Ghost's condition.
"The fuck happened, hermano?"
"Took a nasty fall out of that window," Alejandro was informed. Ghost didn't want to appear weak, so he shrugged Soap off.
"Down the hill! We'll lose them in the mountains!" Ghost attempted to maintain his pace without stumbling, but his head was still muddled. Soap joined him.
"Hold onto my shoulder, Ghost."
"What?"
"Just do it," Soap growled, and Ghost reluctantly complied, grasping Soap's shoulder as they continued their descent.
"Fan out, stay close," Alejandro directed his men, casting a glance back at Ghost and Soap.
"The old route?" Rodolfo asked as he sprinted through the forest.
Ghost struggled to keep up, but with Soap's support, they made their way through the terrain, determined to lose their pursuers in the rugged mountainous region.
"Straight to the bridge," Alejandro directed the team. As they rushed forward, a bullet struck one of their comrades, causing them to take cover behind a large boulder. Alejandro urgently ran to the injured man, calling out his name.
"Army's on us!" Soap warned, crouching beside Ghost, who was struggling to maintain his aim.
"Get to cover and return fire!" Ghost ordered a couple of Alejandro's men who were running about aimlessly in the clearing. Soap recognized Ghost's worsening condition, particularly his compromised vision. When Ghost attempted to reload, Soap stopped him.
"Ghost, you have a concussion," Soap pointed out.
"Most like—ow!" Ghost winced as Soap touched his head, causing pain to surge through him. He could feel a dark patch growing on his mask, indicating the severity of his injury. Their situation was becoming increasingly dire as they faced the advancing army, and Ghost's condition was a significant concern.
"We'll take care of it when we get back," Ghost murmured, determined to manage his injury once they reached safety.
"We?" Soap smiled faintly before the area fell silent.
"We clear?"
"For now. We gotta move! Go!"
"You know these trails?" Soap inquired as he helped Ghost to his feet, with Ghost gripping his shoulder for support. The man who had been shot earlier appeared to be unharmed, likely due to his body armor.
