Chapter 22

~JJ's pov~

I can't belive it's been three weeks and Kie still didn't even call us. I tried to call her every day but she never answered.

I called her every single day and texted her, maybe a little more than necessary but she never answered.

Pope tried to talk with her parents and see why she's been ignoring our calls but apparently they're talking with her everyday so she is allowed to use her phone.

"Maybe she's ditching us like she did when she was at the kook academy" John B said not looking away from Sarah's hair that he was unsuccessfully trying to braid.

Maybe he was right. Maybe she did ditched us. She did it before so what would stop her to do it again?

But Kie wouldn't do that. Not again.

Or maybe she would and I'm just trying to defend her.

"No she doesn't, she is probably busy or maybe her signal is bad" Sarah said elbowing John B in the knee.

"But she managed to call her parents" pointed Pope.

"Maybe they gave her a new number" Sarah tried again but I interrupted her.

"The number is still available, I called her this morning but she didn't answer" I said.

I have no idea if I'm mad cause she isn't even bothering to send us a message or I'm just worried.

Probably both.

"Maybe something happend" I said but John B rolled his eyes.

"It's the fifth time you suggest this and the third time I have to remind you that there are video cameras and security everywhere there" he said.

"I guess but what if something actually happened, maybe we should actually go and at least check on her" I suggested.

"It's a five hours fly and with the Twinkie it'll take us at least a whole day" Pope said.

"I'm sure she'll call us as soon as she can" said Sarah but she didn't seem too convinced either.

"And what if she doesn't?" I asked and she didn't answer. "Am I the only one who cares that she might be in danger?"

"She is not in danger. She ditched us once, she can easily do it again" snapped John B.

"Just cause she did one mistake it doesn't mean she will do it again" I snapped back at him.

"You were the one who was the maddest when she went full kook, why are you defending her now?" he said.

"Enough" said Sarah getting between me and John B even if we weren't to close to eachother. "Kie didn't ditch us and she is not in danger" she started but I didn't wanna hear another stupid speech from her.

I got out of the Chateau and started walking. I don't know towards where or for how long I was walking but I needed to clear my mind before I'm gonna say something I'd regret.

I really needed Kie now.

She'd know how to help me calm down without implying me to walk around for hours and she'd also know that it was stupid to start arguing with John B, she would've found a way so that we wouldn't have argued.

I need her and she's not even returning my calls. Maybe she's the one who needs us.

Maybe she's in danger and we're staying here doing nothing.

I walked until I reached the beach. I couldn't walk anymore and I needed to clear my mind. The beach reminds me of Kie. Every single thing reminds me of her.

She would have loved the waves, and how warm this day was. She would have loved to see the water coming out of Pope's nose cause he laughed to hard this morning and John B tripping while carrying Sarah on his back.

"Hey" I felt Sarah's hand on my shoulder, stopping me from walking. "You're away faster than I thought"

"What are you doing here?" I asked while she seat down next to me.

"I wanted to make sure you're okay, besides I promised Kie that I'd make sure you're not getting into any troubles" she laughed.

Of course she did. She's always worrying about us and never about herself.

I didn't really know what to tell to Sarah. I know she was trying to make the things better but all I wanted right now was to make sure Kie's okay.

"She never ditched you" she said after a while of sitting in silence.

"What are you talking about?" I asked not knowing from where that came from.

"When we were in the kook academy she told me once about you and the others. It was strange at first cause she never mentioned any of you cause she was scared of how I'd react" she said.

"And how did you react?" I asked even if I think I already know the answer from her face.

"I was worried that if she was going to hang out with you all she was going to be heated even more by that stupid kook kids so I told her that she can't talk with you all ever again" she noticed that I wanted to interrupt her so she put a hand on my arm, signaling me to let her finish.

"She got very mad at first and we got into a big fight, eventually I managed to convince her not to talk with you all again with anyone except from me" she continued.

I didn't know if I should call her a bitch in the past or ask her why is she telling me this all now.

"Why are you telling me this all?" I asked deciding to go with the second option.

"Because after that she told me everything about you. She told me how much you annoy her and how often you make her mad and" she started but I stopped her again.

"Are you telling me this to make me feel better?" I asked.

"And about how hard is for her to be mad at you when you do this all. She talked a whole night about you, about what an amazing friend you are and a great surfer. About how you're the only one who can make her smile when she's sad and how much she misses you"

"She really said this all?" I asked.

"Yes she did JJ and that's why you need to understand why she'd never ditch you again" she said. "I know it's hard and that you miss her, trust me, I miss her so much too but she really cares about you too much to abandon you and I know you love her and that's why you're so worried"

"Me loving Kie? No way, she's my best friend and of course I'm worried but I'm not in love with her"

"I'm not John B or Pope, I noticed it since we were on that damn island" she said and maybe she was right. "I'm not gonna pressure you to tell me especially since you obviously didn't relaise it yourself but I promise Kie is fine"

I sat there for a moment just looking at her and trying to understand everything that had just happend.

"You're away wiser for a kook than I expected, Cameron" I laughed and she returned me the smile.

"Well what can I say, I'm pretty amazing" she said and that's when I noticed my phone buzzing.

I took it out from my pocket and I noticed a missed call from Kie. She finally calls and I miss it.

"Looks like things are already getting better" Sarah said looking at my phone.

I rushed to call her number back but she didn't answer. I tried one more time and that's when I noticed that she left a voice message.

I pressed play and it felt so good to finally hear her voice after weeks even if she sounded like she was hurrying.

"I'm so sorry for not calling any of you back all this weeks but I don't really have time, I'm not alone, there's this resort close to the school and" the message stopped in the middle of the phrase.

What the hell just happend.
