POV (Y/n)

-Day 1 In the Scorch-

It wasn't long until we were escorted into a room and shut in by heavy metal doors, and I couldn't help but glare at the door from my spot on my bunk. I'm at the bottom of my own bunk no one to bother me or keep me awake with their tossing and turning, but I struggle to stay asleep. Every time I close my eyes there he is, but not as he truly was, I see Gally as he was last stung. He's crying and has black veins creeping up his neck, it makes me sick.

As I stare I run my fingers over my necklace and listen as Thomas splashes his face with water. "You need to sleep (Y/n)," Thomas urges and I shrug "I'm much better off awake than I'd be asleep," I tell him not bothering to lower my voice knowing these boys sleep hard after years surrounded by a moving maze. "Just try (N/n)," he pleads and I sigh before finally turning to look at him in the bunk across from me. I want to yell at him but force myself to understand he's only trying to look after me.

He's like Lily, memories of me that I can no longer grasp. I think about the memories that'd come to me in the glade, and how Gally loved for me to recap them in the early hours of the morning. Now when I dream they're not dreams at all but nightmares of Gally's last moments except different sometimes he shoots Thomas, himself, or me. I don't know what version scares me the most the reality of Chuck saving my brother or one of the variations. I close my eyes for Thomas's sake, but I have no intention of falling asleep again.

I lay there with my eyes closed faking sleep until I hear the creaking of metal. I jolt from my spot the first thing my brain screams is griever until it settles on my surroundings. Thomas is alarmed by the noise as well and turns to me as we look for signs of the noise. "Down here," we hear a voice whisper from below and we move to look under Thomas's bed to see a boy I recognized from the mess hall. "Follow me," he urges and Thomas and I exchange confused glances before hesitantly crawling into the space.

"Come on we're gonna miss it," the boy from before urges us and I furrow my brows "Miss what?" I ask as he stops over a grate above the floor. "Just watch," he whispers to us as we watch several, bodies underneath sheets being rolled into a room. I feel bile rise in my throat at the mere thought, but I remain quiet not wanting to be caught as we snoop. Lily, "what the hell is that?" Thomas asks his eyes not daring to move from the floor below us. "They bring in new ones every hour like clockwork," is all the boy tells us.

"What do they do with them?" I ask in an urgent tone Lily's name buzzing through my head. "I don't know this is as far as I've ever gotten, but once they go through that door they don't come back out. I don't think anyone ever leaves this place," he tells us, and my brows furrow in anger as I search for some kind of explanation. "Why are you showing us this?" Thomas asks "because the others might listen to you. I know something weird is going on here and I know you guys think so too. Now we have to go before anyone notices we're gone," he urges and we move through the tight vent space.

"Who are you?" I ask as we make our way back to the room "Aris, and you guys?" he returns the question "I'm (Y/n) and this is my brother Thomas," I gesture and he nods. It's not long until Aris is gone and I'm alone with Thomas again "what do you think is going on?" he asks me and I shake my head "if I had to bet, WICKED or someone an awful lot like 'em," I state and he nods before falling onto his bunk.

I match his actions with a sigh, this is a nightmare. It seems that's all my life is anymore.
