A couple of uneventful days pass and I still haven't heard from Axl. Maybe I scared him off. Maybe he really didn't have fun and was just trying to be polite. No, I can't think like that. I'm sure he's just busy. I pull his card out of my bag and read it.
'Oh, wow! A robotics company.' I think. Yeah, he's just busy. I pull out my phone and pull up the messages. I punch in his number and begin typing.
"Hi, Axl. It's Makenna. I just wanted to check on you and see how you're doing. I'm sure you're busy, so just return a message whenever you can. K, bye."
'Ugh, maybe I shouldn't have sent that. That sounded too needy, or did it? Hmm, I don't know. Oh well, it's too late now, you already sent it you dummy.' My thoughts taunting me.
Getting frustrated with myself, I get up and get ready for the day. I'm in the middle of grocery shopping when I hear my phone sound my message notification. I pick it up and kind of nonchalantly look at it, not expecting anything important. I double take after I realize it's from Axl. I unlock my phone and open the message.
"Yeah, hey. Sorry. I have this project I have to have done by the end of the week and we got behind. I meant to message you yesterday, but I got caught up in work."
'See? You dummy. He was just busy.' I think and start typing out my reply.
"Hey, it's okay. Really. I'm sure robotics can be pretty complex, I get it. No worries!"
"It's not okay to me. I led you to believe you'd receive a call or a message from me and I didn't do either, despite my intentions to. I really am sorry. Can you forgive me?" He messages again,
"Also, I'd like to take you out Friday night, if you would like to accompany me?"
"Apology accepted. You are forgiven. And I'd love to accompany you this Friday." I'm absolutely beaming.
"Perfect. Thank you. I will let you know when I will be picking you up."
"Sounds great! See you then."
'Oh, Tobias, I could never stay mad at you. I wish to accompany you anywhere you'll have me, my good sir. I love you and I can't wait for our reunion.'
"Oh, how I wish I could send him that!" I say to myself.
"At least we're going out again." excitement building for our date.
'I wonder what to wear? Hmm, I don't even know how to dress. I don't know where we're going. Should I ask him? I know it's not for a couple days, but what if, when it does get here, I don't have anything appropriate? Or it's casual and I dress fancy. Or It's fancy and I dress casually. Ugh, fine! I can't take this. I'll just ask him. It's not a big deal.' My inner monologue battling with itself.
"Hey. Again. Quick question. What will the dress code be like? I wanted to make sure I had something appropriate."
"Oh, hello. Again. Dress code, huh? It will be semi-formal, if that's okay? I'm sure you'll look great in whatever you choose." I smile like a stupid school girl with a crush.
"That will be just fine. Thank you. Have a good day!"
"You're welcome. Enjoy your day."
"Okay, semi-formal, huh? Let's go see what we got to work with." I say to myself as I head to my closet. I search through what I own and have several possible options. I have a floor length deep purple dress with moons and stars on it, a shorter little black dress, a strapless crimson dress with a slit up the side, and finally a floor length black dress with silver accents.
"Okay, I have great potential here. It is only Wednesday though, so maybe I'll check out some of the clothing stores and see if I can find something new." I say out loud and prepare for the excursion.
I arrive to the third store after finding nothing in the first two. I walk the aisles scanning the dresses and all the different shades and hues filling up the racks. I walk by this particular section and stop to grab the dress that caught my attention.
"This is perfect!" I say with a huge smile on my face. I make my purchase and head home excitedly waiting for Friday to get here.
