We have been living in our own little paradise for a while and we couldn't be happier. Tobias works and I tend the house and garden. We are content in our own world, away from the hustle and bustle of the town.
I am in the kitchen cleaning things up from last night's dinner, when Tobias comes home from work. I can hear him talking but can't understand what he's saying. I walk into the living room to greet him.
"Hello, love. How was..." I stop as I noticed he was on the phone. He looks at me and smiles, continuing his conversation. He kicks off his shoes and heads to his office. I return to my incomplete task in the kitchen. Within a few minutes, I hear Tobias walk into the room. He comes up behind me and pulls me into him, kissing my neck.
"Hello, my dear. Sorry about the phone. It was work. I swear they can't do anything without me." I smile and turn in his arms. I wrap my own around his neck and kiss his nose.
"It's okay, baby. Rough day?" I ask.
"Eh, a little, but that's okay. It could have been worse." he answered.
"So," he continues,
"Are you ready for tomorrow night?" kissing my neck again.
"Tomorrow? What's tomorrow?" I question, pretending like I didn't know what he meant.
"Did you really forget?" looking a little hurt.
"Kyrie, baby, it's our anniversary." he says, taking a step back, away from me, causing my arms to drop to my sides.
"No, love. Of course I didn't forget." I say in a rush. I drop my head, ashamed of myself for hurting him trying to joke around.
"I was just trying to mess with you. I'm sorry." I finish as a tear falls from my eye.
'How could you be so stupid?' my brain shouts. More tears come, I sniffle. Tobias reaches for me and pulls me into a hug.
"Oh, you silly girl." he states. I squeeze him tightly, willing my tears to stop.
"I'm not upset, okay?" he strokes my hair.
"I was just a little surprised thinking you had forgotten. I should have known better. You waited so long for me, how could I honestly think you had?" he hugs me harder.
"Come now," he says, lifting my chin so our eyes can meet. Using his thumbs, he wipes away the small drops of salt water from my face.
"No more tears. We have things to do for tomorrow." he finishes, kissing my nose.
We exit the kitchen and head out into our backyard. In the far corner is a fire pit with some surrounding chairs. There is also a futon that we lay on sometimes to watch the stars. This is where we will spend our first year anniversary together. We will cook dinner together, roast some marshmallows and gaze into the night sky in each other's arms. We finally finish all our preparations, do some cleaning up and collapse onto the couch.
"Ugh, I'm exhausted." I huff.
"Me too." Tobias agrees,
"Let's go to bed, huh?" patting my leg.
"Yeah, let me just sit here a minute." I say.
"No, if you do that, you'll end up falling asleep. Come on." he returns, sitting up, looking over at me.
"Hmm, fine." I pout,
"You're right, let's go." holding my arm up for him to take my hand. He grabs it and pulls me up. We walk to our bedroom, get ready for bed and crawl in. Tobias pulls me into his side, and I drape my arm across his chest. He kisses my forehead.
"Good night little minx, I love you." he grumbles sleepily.
"I love you too baby, good night." I reply. We fall asleep like this after a short while. Peaceful. Happy.
