A waitress comes over to our table and takes our orders. I order a club sandwich with coke and James orders a Burger also with a coke. The waitress writes all of this down and leaves our table.
I hear the entrance door chime but I pay no attention to it. Then my friends walk past our table and sit a few rows ahead of us. They keep an eye on me but act normal at the same time. I act normal as well and pretend everything is good.
"You look very pretty" James says, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Oh thank you" I say smiling
"So tell me, what's new with you?" He asks
"Well what do you wanna know?" I ask back
"Anything" He replies
"Well I'm in the Drama club and in two weeks auditions are starting for our winter play" I tell him.
"Are you auditioning?" He asks
"Yes I am"
"What play are you guys doing?"
"A Christmas Carol"
"Who are you auditioning for?"
"The Ghost of Christmas present"
"That's cool, I'm proud of you"
"Thank you"
The waitress comes back with our food and sets it down for us. I start eating and we talk for a little here and there.
"I see a Jukebox back there I'm going to go change the music, any specific song request?" He asks as he gets up.
"Anything by Elvis Presley" I say
"There we go a person who knows real music" He jokes and I laugh. He walks over to the jukebox while I still eat my sandwich.
My friends are still keeping an eye on me. I take a quick look at them and I see Abby holding a thumps up and a concerned face. She's asking if I'm okay and I nod my head and smile. She smiles back and turns back to the group.
All of a sudden, I hear the song 'Can't help falling in love with you' by Elvis Presley play. It's my favorite song by him and James comes back to the table.
"That was the first song I saw by Elvis and I played it" He says
"It's my favorite song" I admit
"Really?" He asks
"Yeah" I reply
We finish up eating and the group already left outside waiting for me to finish up.
"Care for dessert?" James asks
"Uh..sure" I say
"Whatcha want?" He asks
"Root beer float please" I answer
"You got it" He calls the waitress over and as she takes our plates away, he asks for a root beer float and a chocolate milkshake for him.
Our desserts come over after a while and we sit in silence while drinking.
"I need to ask you something" He suddenly says
"Yeah what's up?" I ask
"I just want you to know that I meant what I said after the assembly. I really did miss you and I thought about you a lot. I messed up a shit ton and you didn't deserve any of my bullshit" He admits
I am in shock right now and I don't know what to say but he keeps on talking.
"So I wanted to ask you...will you be my girlfriend? For real this time"
I open my mouth but nothing comes out. I told myself that I wanted to try this again, so let's see what happens from here on out.
"Yes" I say
"Yes?" He asks
"Yes, I will be your girlfriend"
He sighs out of relief and smiles.
"Okay then" He says
We take our last few sips of our drinks and as he gets up from the booth, he holds out his hand for me and helps me out of the booth. We continue to hold hands and walk out the diner.
"Is this okay?" He asks holding up our hands
"Yes, it is" I say
"Can I kiss you?" He asks
I freeze. I've never been kissed before and the thought about it being now scares me.
"I- I've never been k-kissed before" I stutter out
"Oh well if you're not comfortable about it now we can wait, there's no rush" He reassures me
"Yeah thank you" I say
"Of course" he pulls me into a hug and I feel warm.
"Want me to give you a ride home?" He asks
"No, my friend is there to give me a ride" I point over at Abby's car and when we looks over to her the group quickly turn the opposite direction and pretend like as if they were not just stalking us.
"Also why do you have a car, aren't you 15?" I ask
He chuckles, "Uh, no I'm 16 I started school late because of when I was born" He explains
"When were you born?" I ask
"January 16th"
"Oh, well happy very belated birthday"
"Thanks"
We then stared at each other for a few seconds and I take in his facial features. I notice that he has dark green eyes and he has very light freckles that are kinda hard to see. I never knew he was so handsome.
"Okay well I have to get home now" I say
"Okay bye, see you in school" He says as he walks off to his black mustang car.
He drives off and I wave goodbye to him. I approach my friends and they wait for a response.
"So, how'd it go?" Nancy asks
I smile slowly and start to squeal and my girl friends squeal together with me and hug me. The boys are just to the side and watch us.
"Are you happy with him?" Sarah asks
I nod because I have no words to say and I'm so excited right now.
I have a boyfriend!
"Are you going to tell your parents?" Jerry suddenly asks
I think for a minute. They're very strict about dating. If I told them that I was with James they would deny it and make me break off the whole thing. I never got to experience what true love feels like.
"No, I'm not, but eventually I will. Someday" I tell him.
"Okay your choice" He says
We all say our goodbyes and the girls drop me off to my house. I go inside the house and after I say hello and goodnight to my parents, I go upstairs and see Salem waiting for me by my bedroom door.
"Hey baby" I coo at him
I pick him up and take him inside my room.
"Wanna sleep with me?" I ask him
"Meow" He says
"Yeah, sure you do" I set him down on my bed and do my night routine. Afterwards, I get into bed and snuggle with Salem and head off to sleep.
