December 11, Friday
Tomorrow is my play and I'm super hyped up but that could be because of my nerves. Last year I didn't get to be in last year's play because I was only a freshman. But this year is different.
It's morning and it's before class and we're all in the cafeteria talking and laughing. Lily comes over with a book in her hands.
"Guys look, I found my yearbook from middle school" She says
"Oh my God, can I look through it?" I ask
"Sure, I'm going to the restroom real quick but look through it" She walks off and I open up the yearbook.
There's photos of Lily in middle school and I smile. We all barely met Lily last year since we went to different middle schools so it was nice to see photos from when she was younger.
I turn to a page and my smile drops and my heart races.
There's a page titled "Cutest couples in school" and one of the photos is of James and Lily together with James kissing her in the cheek and her smiling.
They never told me they were ever a thing and I feel myself getting mad. I turn the book towards Abby and point at the picture.
"Please tell me I'm dreaming and that's not real" I say and wait for a response
"Oh shit" is all I hear her say and at that moment I know it's true. My best friend and my boyfriend used to date, and I had no idea.
Is that why she was shocked to hear I was dating him?
Is that why she looked mad when he asked me to prom?
Was she jealous?
"Hey guys I'm back" I hear her say behind me and I get up off my seat and confront her.
I show her the picture on the book and when she sees it, I see her face go pale.
"When were you going to tell me?' I ask in a serious tone
"Emma.... I'm so sorry" She says
"Really? 'I'm sorry' is all you can say?"
"It wasn't even for that long, I didn't think it was important" She's panicking
"Of course it was important Lily!" I start to raise my voice.
I shove the book to her chest and walk out of the cafeteria, I don't want to hear anymore excuses.
As I'm leaving the cafeteria, I bump into James.
"Oh hey beautiful I was just abo-" he says but I cut him off by pushing him.
"You asshole" I say to him
"What?" he asks
"Why didn't you tell me you and Lily were together in middle school?"
"Lily?"
"Don't act dumb James I saw the yearbook photo"
