24 ─ ALL IS WELL?

I just read a bit of pride & prejudice (jane austen) so this might sound like an old school written chapter 😭

Y/N had decided that the next day was when she'd give them a proper tour of the house. Yesterday, the spent the hours walking outside and getting a bit of an understanding of where things are on this mountain. There was a lake surrounded by even more ridges of mountains, and she said it was clean.

They hung around that area until she wanted to bring them to another place, which was a worn-down treehouse stabilized by three whole trees. Despite it's appearance, it was still sturdy, and there was a swing hanging from one of the thick branches. The ladder they hammered onto the tree was still intact, too, so they could get an up-close look on what Y/N's childhood was like; her siblings and herself play around in this area, according to Y/N.

They were brought back to the manor for snacks and a short break, but after that, they set out again and explored only 5% of the place.

Today, their legs were sore from the walking, so Y/N said today is the day she'd give them a tour.

She said there were at least more than twenty bedrooms and even more below the surface of the manor's first floor in the north wing. The drawing room and living room, two which were both exceptionally large, were both on the west wing, and in the east wing were more empty rooms with tables and chairs and instruments like flutes and violins mounted on the walls for easy access.

Kakucho silently gave appreciation to the multitude of maids; they did their very best. (And Y/N had a lot more who were on break. They exchange shifts when they wish.)

The lounge had a large harp, a pianoforte and a floor-to-ceiling window with a view to the backyard, which were yards and yards of green grass.

Takemichi stuck to the couch and listened to Y/N play the piano in a daze as the maids joined their company. It was almost out of a historical fiction book; the kind landlady and duchess inviting two of her lowly-status friends to run amongst her mansion.

Takemichi couldn't help but imagine that they were in the 1800s, considering the things that they wore, the way the maids spoke... it was like a fever dream.

"Y/N," he heard one of the manservants say as he approached her on the piano.

"Hm?"

He whispered something into her ear, and she nodded curtly.

"Alright. Guys, the north wing is opened and cleaned. We can go."

"I thought they kept the whole place cleaned," Kakucho said as he stood.

Y/N shrugged and led them out the door and down the hall, into the north wing. "I let them clean one section of the place at a time. North wing is the last section they clean, which makes it a bit dirty."

"What's in the north wing?" Takemichi asked.

"The twenty-plus rooms I mentioned, except there's a secret in one of them, and I want you to try to find it within today."

"...what secret?"

"That's for me to know, and for you to find out," she said with a cheeky smile.

And with that, the hunting for the "secret" began.

Kakucho checked all the rooms on the left, and Takemichi was on the right.

He checked under beds and carpets, pushed drawers and cabinets aside, stomped on every tile to see if they'd do anything, but to no avail. The two young men chose not to make it a competition this time, since they were pressured by time already, and were just about to give up until they met with the room at the left end of the hall.

It was an extra room─ the doors would've been equal if it weren't for this one.

If they don't find anything here, Kakucho said they should give up and just ask Y/N, but Takemichi said they should recheck the rooms.

This room was different.

There was a slightly bigger bookshelf.

"I've seen this in movies," he said softly and checked all of the individual books. "Kaku! Come help me out here!"

"I doubt this is the answer," he sighed. "But alright."

One by one, they pulled each book, but nothing happened.

Kakucho, tired and about to give up, Takemichi tried to pick up one of the candelabras, but it was... stuck.

Then he twisted it.

Then the whole bookshelf had turned, but it stopped half way, like it rusted in after all the years.

"So this is the secret," Takemichi smiled and charged inside, while Kakucho ran out to tell Y/N.

He found a set of spiral stairs, and as he descended, he heard following steps from Kakucho, probably.

"Hey!"

He ignored Kakucho and finally landed on the floor, but his excitement dwindled into the type of excitement with fear. The creaky floors unsettled him, and he felt like someone was watching him...

"Hey!" Kakucho whisper-shouted again.

"Just come down here!" He responded, but he received none.

"...who are you?"

Then he finally understood.

That isn't Kakucho's voice. This is a child.

"I'm... I'm Hana..." he said, trying to earn this kid's trust. "Do you know a... a Y/N L/N?"

"Oh...? Her?" He heard in his tone that he was more comfortable with talking. "Oh, yes, I do. She disappeared after a fight with that Margie girl," he said, almost excited to speak. "Do you know her?"

"Yes," he replied immediately. "She's my friend."

"She's my friend too!" The smile was evident in his voice. "My name is Robbie."

Before Takemichi could befriend this kid and ask who he was and why he as in there, the actual Kakucho came down and said: "Takemichi? Who are you talking to?"

He looked up at the stairs, and he was there with a confused look on his face.

Takemichi looked back, hearing no more words from Robbie, and left, telling him it was nothing.
