30 ─ I DON'T LIKE THIS ENDING.

MITSUYA left the room after, using the other door leading to the staircase instead of Y/N's office.

Following after was Kakucho, curious and suspicious of this guy's intentions. He kept his footsteps quiet, but somehow, Mitsuya turned his head toward his direction, looking him dead in the eye, like he always knew he was following him.

"Kakucho, was it?" He said.

He stiffened and nodded. "Yes."

"Well," Mitsuya fully turned, his black turtleneck shifting a bit as he did. "Thank you for coming. I need... to explain something to you."

"What is it?"

"Do you know who Auji Akashi is?"

Kakucho's heart dropped.

"...how do you know his name?"

"He's alive," he said bluntly. "And he's on his way."

"Wh─ huh??" Kakucho narrowed his brows. "No, he's dead."

"Believe me," Mitsuya almost pleaded. "He's coming here, and I need you to help me."

Kakucho looked down at his shoes. Mitsuya isn't the type of guy to lie... Y/N always spoke positively about him.

"...if what you're saying is true," Kakucho began. "Then tell me. How am I supposed to help you? We're both third in place of rank─ Takemichi is above me, and Draken and Sanzu are above you."

"Mikey and I have been friends for a long time, and I assume that's your case with Y/N, too."

"And you expect me to use her mercy to my advantage?"

"Don't excuse this," Mitsuya waved his hand. "Now's not the time. I'll tell you how to help me; I just need you to come clear with how you truly feel about this ending."

"'Ending'?"

Mitsuya rolled his tongue against the insides of his own cheeks, looking frustrated. "I don't understand. The years and time we spent went by so fast. We changed too fast, and we reacted too fast. There were bits and pieces that were missing. It's like we never experienced them at all."

"Okay, you're going crazy. Is the help you requested supposed to be me finding your meds?" Kakucho raised a brow.

"No─ I need you to listen to your gut feeling. Don't you hate this ending? Where a peaceful life isn't an option? Don't you want Y/N to be happy?"

"She's happy when she gets what she wants."

"She's miserable," he continued. "Don't you get it?! We don't like this ending. You wanna change it, and so do I."

"Stop gaslighting me, it's not gonna work."

"I'm not. You'll see. Don't say I didn't try to warn you," the tiredness in his voice was evident. "But once you finally understand, drop everything and run. To me. Shake my hand and we will agree."

Mitsuya heard the familiar sound of Takemichi's voice knocking at the door, saying: "Hey, Mitsuya? Are you home?"

He smiled, let him in, and apologized for the inconvenience he was in that he couldn't serve him a better snack than his soup.

"No, no, I'm okay," Takemichi made a crooked smile. "I'm... just here to see if you're alright."

"Huh? Of course, I'm alright," Mitsuya furrowed his brows in confusion. "Why do you ask?"

"It's nothing. I'm... Y/N said a lot about you, and she mentioned that you really care for your sisters."

"She─ she did?"

Takemichi nodded. "I think she looks up to you, man," he fist-bumped his shoulder, and Mitsuya laughed softly and shook his head.

"No, I─ I don't believe that."

"Then believe it," Takemichi said and held his right hand with his own, and shook it. "'m counting on you."

"What? For what?"

"You'll see," he exhaled heavily and gave him a pat on the back. "See ya, Mitsuya."

"Wait─!"

And with that, he left.

He knows something I don't, Kakucho couldn't focus on the announcement Y/N had brought them. He accepted that they were merging under Toman already─ didn't Mitsuya mention something about that? Are things moving too fast, just like he said?

"Kaku?" Y/N's gentle voice woke him up from his daze. "Are you alright?"

"Yeah," he answered quickly. "I'm okay."

He wouldn't be okay if he knew who had pulled up in the driveway.

Mister Auji Akashi had already disabled all the security and guards, bringing more than a hundred men to assassinate the daughter of the love of his life.
