CHAPTER 18

18 ─ PEPPER AND PEKE J

PEPPER, your cat, meowed as she led you to a pet store, rubbing her body on the glass doors.

"I already got you a toy..." you sighed. The cat, having no shame, meowed and stayed where she was.

"Fine..."

You pushed the doors open, and you walked into one of the aisles, your cat following after you.

"Welcome again, Mister L/N!" The young girl at the counter chirped. "Eima," you greeted with a nod. "You're as lively as ever."

She giggled and twirled a few strands of her hair bashfully─ a pink tint on her cheeks told you she was still crushing on you... and stuck with "Mister L/N" as her way to refer to you.

"Mister L/N, what's the name of your cat?" She asked.

"Pepper."

"Aww!" She gushed. "She's so cute! Where'd you get her?"

You went over to the shelves and picked out Pepper's favorite food and a new collar; it was black with a silver bell on it, but the light ginger cat was nowhere in sight.

"Uh─ I got her on the streets randomly," you answered, trying not to panic.

"Oh, that's the cutest! She really likes you, huh. A lot of girls probably do," she tried to whisper the last part, but you heard it, still.

"Sorry?"

"Oh, nothing!"

You went to the counter and quickly paid for the food when suddenly the bell of the doors rang.

"Uh, Eima, I found this cat outside, n' she had a collar, so I was wonderin' if─"

You took your bag and turned around, only to see a wide-eyed Chifuyu staring at you with two cat's in his hands.

One of them being Pepper.

"Oh, hey, Fufu," you smiled. "I see you found Pepper for me."

"Ah, so you're the owner," he returned the grin and gave her to you, and watched as you simply put her on the ground.

His eyes widened again in amazement as Pepper sat next to you, right on your left foot.

"Woah! Did you train her?"

"Nah," you laughed at his amazement. "She just follows me around."

"Y─ you guys know each other?!" Eima from behind you exclaimed.

"Yeah! We aren't that close, though," Chifuyu chuckled.

"We aren't that close yet," you said. "What's his name?" You gestured to his cat.

"Peke J. Baji and I take care of him."

"What? Co-parenting?"

"No─ I mean, yeah! Something like that. "What are you doing here, by the way?"

"Oh, I don't know, buying collars for myself?" You hoped the sarcasm was evident in your tone. "I'm getting stuff for Pepper, silly."

"Oh! Right!" His face flushed with embarrassment. "Sorry, um─ Miss Eima, are you alright...?"

You turned, and her face was a bright red.

"Mhm!! Just─ just a little hot in here, is all!"

"You're not sick, are you?" You said smoothly. "Do you need anything?"

"No no! I should be accomodating you, I'll be alright!"

"If you say so. Gonna buy anything, Fufu?"

"I already did, actually," he said. "...um... can I ask you for a favor?"

"What's up?"

"May I request... uh.. help, with homework...?"

"Depends. If it's math, you're asking the wrong person."

"I'm trying to learn (y/l) second to English, so I was wondering─"

"Yes. Lead the way."

You waved goodbye to Eima and blew a little kiss to throw her off a bit more, and to your delight, she squirmed and squeeled as soon as you were out of sight.

"Ken," you told your driver. "You can go home. I'm gonna hang with Chifuyu at his place."

"Yes, Young Master Y/N."

With that, he left.

You approached his bike, and he put his stuff on the handles before asking: "Have you ever rode a bike before?"

"Like this one? With no pedals? No."

"Well... d'you want me to teach you?"

"Are you sure?" You raised a brow. "If we crash, it's your fault for letting me drive."

"I'll guide you from the back, don't worry! Take a seat," he patted the front.

You did.

He pointed to what you had to do, and surely enough, the engine started purring.

Your cat sad on your lap, while Peke J sat on his, sandwiched between you both.

"Okay, then you─"

The bike jerked forward, and he leaned in unintentionally.

"Woah, woah," he hummed. "Okay, steady..."

He did as he promised; he guided you through the process, and you caught up quickly. The faster you went, the tighter the grip he had on your shoulders, probably scared that you had already picked up what you just learned.

"Wait! That's gonna turn into a red light! Slow down!"

"It won't if we're fast enough!"

"But the cats─?!"

His reasoning went to deaf ears, as you sped through the incoming traffic right before yhe light turned red.

Then you slowed down.

"Y/N!" He slapped your shoulder. "If the cops chase us, that's on you!!"

"Hear that?"

The faint sound of sirens only made Chifuyu whack your shoulder again.

"Y/N!!"

"We didn't even do anything!!"

"We speeded, that's what!"

"Then watch me speed again."

"Wait─!"

He kept Peke J secure, and you passed Pepper to the back while you drove. You didn't want your cat to die.

The sirens came closer ad closer, but you were always one step ahead.

As soon as you turned a corner, you ducked into an alleyway and hid behind a building, losing the cops.

"The good ol' duke. What's up, Fufu? You alright?"

The poor guy didn't respond.

He was too shaken up.

He genuinely thought you two were going to jail.

"I'm..." He croaked.

"Hmm?"

"I'm never letting you drive again."
