Lily walked into McGonagall's classroom with a sigh, hefting her book higher into her arms as she skirted through the isles of desks and found her own. Remus was already seated next to her chair at their desk, parchment spread out and quill at the ready. As she sat down, Lily had to admire the readiness Remus always seemed to have about him, eager and prepared to learn. She couldn't always relate.

Nevertheless, she sat down and opened her notebook, ready for the day's second lecture to begin. When Professor McGonagall finally began to speak, Lily found herself drifting only a few minutes into the class. She looked lazily over the classroom, a mish-mash of Ravenclaw and Gryffindor students all stuffed together like sardines.

Subconsciously, her eyes were drawn to James Potter of all people and she felt herself jerk when she realized she had been staring at him. She quickly looked away and instead found the weirdly upright and posture-perfect Sirius who sat a few chairs away, next to a Ravenclaw Lily knew but couldn't quite name. Weirded out by Sirius's strange posture, she watched him for a few minutes before leaning over to whisper to Remus.

"What's wrong with him?" Lily asked him lowly, motioning with her shoulder to Sirius.

Remus glanced up from his book before a hint of a smug smile fell over his face, "Ah, well, I made a deal with him and James: whoever is the first to get detention has to study with me for the OWLs."

Remus raised his hand from the desk and motioned subtly to James across the aisle from Lily. Lily noticed the rhythmic twitch in his barely visible eye and right leg. She snorted and Remus leaned closer to her ear with a mischievous smirk.

"From the looks of it, it's not going too well..."

Lily nodded slowly as Remus leaned away and she pretended to write something in her notebook; no need to draw McGonagall's unwanted attention. She raised her voice ever so subtly as she spoke to Remus once more though, purposefully making sure James could hear her.

"Oh, so he's not normally that twitchy? Never noticed." She bit down on the smile growing on her face as James stiffened.

"I HEARD THAT!" James all but shouted and McGonagall's neck cracked when she whipped around to stare at him.

"Mr Potter!" James froze, his eyes comically wide as McGonagall halted the lecture. "Since you seem so keen on interrupting my class, I will be seeing you in detention tonight!"

"Hah!" Came an abrupt laugh Lily knew too well. "I win!"

McGonagall didn't even blink. "You too, Mr Black."

   "Goddammit!"

   The classroom dissolved into laughter.
