Chapter 24

Diya POV

I perched Zyru on my hip and started talking ramdom stuff with her and she spoke back with her cutest expressions and babbles. Though she was down she is a fighter, she spoke for a bit before getting tired, she gave a tired sigh and laid her face on my chest, putting her little arms around my neck.

I am so lucky we are in the phase where Zyru needs me every minute and I should cherish every minute of it. I looked at the time on the wall clock, Zyra's fever was subsided but she needs either me or Vikram with her and I dint want to leave her on Aunty when she is being fussy in her own cute way.

I thought if Vikram would be here, I could inform him and go but looking at the situation right now, I think I should drop the plan, I have already informed my classmates/teachers and they were very mad but understood when I told them I have a unavoidable serious family situation. As its almost 4pm now, I know I would not be able to make it, I pinged my group and they all replied back with mad and angry emojis.

Me: Hi, Zyru looks like its you and me now. You have me all for yourself what should we do ? 

She babbled all excited and I hugged her close and enjoyed the moment

Vikram POV

The meeting ran long with HOD and after that we were catching up on few stuff happening in the department.

HOD: Vikram, do you know what happened to Diya ?

Me: Sir what happened to Ms. Diya?

HOD: For the business meet she had made excellant preparations that we were very impressed with her. Ms. Madhuri was going to the meet to particpate in the solo and group particpations who was experienced, but she had to be replaced with Diya because Madhuri's parents were facing some personal problems, and they were hesitant to send her to this trip. 

Now, after all the preparations Ms. Diya backed out too because she had an unavoidable serious family situation, whatever we know of her she is not a quitter, but everyone of them are tensed and angry. She was the hope we had but she just quit.

Me: Oh my god so she was supposed to particpate in this competition as one of the contestants who left half hour ago?

HOD: Yes, she notified us last night, gave us a heads up that if she can she will try to come but she sent her friend in her place in the last minute so that we dont get disqualified, but I am skeptical. We thought and hoped that she could sort out the family situation.

Me: Sir, let me do one thing, I know Ms. Diya, she is very hard working student. She missed the bus but may be I can visit her home and know the problem, if it works out then I will drop her off and we can win

HOD : That is wonderful, do that. May be you can help but wouldnt it be weird ?

Me: Yes, but we can say that as she backed out in the last minute you all were worried if she was okay because she is not that kind of girl.We tried to communicate with her but she was not telling us the main reason.

HOD: Yes you are right 

Me: Sir, but there is a problem

HOD: What is it?

Me: I have this assigned classes with students who dint go for competition, I thought as I know Diya I can help but what about that few classes I have?

HOD: You helped Senthil today when he needed it, so I will request him to fill some of your classes or I will take them. If we both cant take it then we will tell them that classes are dismissed. We need the trophy for our college, so please go Vikram.

I ran to my car and called Aunty, I told her the whole thing and asked her to take care of Zyra while telling Diya to get ready. I requested Aunty to pack snacks and whatever food we have at home. I called Diya and asked her to get ready.She asked questions and I avoided them easily.

Me: Diya, I know you had to go to the competition, you backed out in the last minute and it is not good. I am on the way, I will take you to that place. You pack your bag and be ready. Dont think too much, we will start as soon as I change. Zyru is fine now, Aunty will take care of her.

Before she said anything I hung up the call

I dint want her to miss this opportunity, I wanted her to go and have fun. Yes I was jealous of how she was spending time with that flirt Yash because of the competition and I saw them together at that Cafe while I was going home and I got jealous after which I snapped at her in stress. 

Yes I was a jerk but when I saw her cry for Zyru blaming herself, I felt bad and apolozised asap. Now she is giving up all the hard work she had done for us and I dint want her to take the blame, so I proposed this plan without raising any suspicions because I wanted to drop her there and see her succeed. I just used the name of college, its reputation and its win to seed the idea in HOD's mind and it worked. This was the small way I could say thank you to her.

After reaching home I saw that Diya was ready with the bag, I think even she was feeling guilty about backing out and ditching her team in the last minute. I called the doctor on the way to request her to visit Zyru for two days until we come back so that Aunty can feel relieved. 

I changed my attire and we both rushed towards our destination because the competition was tommorow and we had to cover the whole distance without any breaks. The college tour bus will be stopping by a hotel for dinner and born fire as a way to raising spirits and team building, so that way we will be there before them if we dont waste too much time in the middle. The snacks and food that I asked aunty to pack will help us. 

Hope we reach there on time before the meet as she has to fresh up before her competition.
