"Get the fuck up faggot!"

There was a bang on my door, causing me to wake up with a jump.

It was my fathers voice. He didn't like me to much. In fact, he didn't really like anyone besides himself. I'm not sure why mom ever married him. Maybe they were in love at some point but I wasn't around for that part of their story.

Hi. My name is William Byers.

Mom gave me this notebook/journal to write in. Of course father had a fit when he found out. He threw a plate at me and tried to throw mom into the stove that was on. Luckily, my older brother, Jonathan Byers, stepped in at the last minute. Although I'm very grateful for Jonathan, a part of me feels guilty. He always has to protect mom and I because we can't defend ourselves. He's had to grown up to fast, faster than I have to and that's saying a lot.

I'm in seventh grade. Well, I'll be in eighth grade in a few weeks.

Today is the day that we're moving to Hawkins India. Date: 8/15/1984.

I'm glad we're moving. I really hate the city. Well, the memories I have in the city. The city itself is quite nice actually. When it's a dark and calm night it's just peaceful to look out into the dark at all the different lights.

I hope people in Hawkins are nice. I hope they aren't mean and judgmental like people here are. I hope I can maybe make a friend. I've never had one before. Well apart from Jonathan. He's my best friend.

Anyway I've got to stop wiring for right now. Father will get upset if I don't bring his final boxes outside. And God forbid he gets mad today.
