Just as they suspected, Price and the rest of the group were waiting in the dining area. They all turned to watch the two walk into the room, side by side of course.
"Thanks for joining us gentlemen, take a seat" Price said, grabbing a few things as he sat down.
Aspen and Ghost sat side by side, awaiting the plan. Soap was across from them and he lifted a brow as Aspen shifted in his seat to be closer to Simon. In response, Simon sent him a confused look and rolled his eyes.
Price set down his charts and took a deep breath.
"As you know, Simon and Aspen proposed a great plan earlier today. I discussed it with our fellow soldiers and it just so happens to work perfectly. We have safehouses a few miles from here with enough room to store our necessary supplies, as well as housing people" Price began.
"Secondly, I have a team I'd like to travel to their base where the contraband is being held. The rest of us will clear out HQ as you leave. There is a short span of time in which this plan will work, we must be quick and clean with our moves. Nothing out of line, no sidetracking, and no rogue choices. Understood?" He continued, his tone clear and strong. He was incredibly serious about every word he said.
"Who will be going to the base?" Gaz asked
"The same group as last time, however I believe Aspen and Simon would be more useful here helping our teams move out of the base. Instead I'm sending two different men who are known for their skills on the field." Price responded
"Not saying you two don't have any" He quickly followed up.
The group nodded in silent agreement, Aspen and Simon exchanged a glance and decided it would be best not to argue. Without any objections Price showed everyone the map in which the plan would function. Safehouses were marked in blue, and the paths to get to and from were red. Using a pen, Price drew lines between their HQ and the houses as well as the route that the team would attack on.
With everything in order his final commands were, "This begins tomorrow with the shifting of gear and certain files. Get rest and prepare to follow orders, we will rendezvous at 7am sharp in the conference room."
Silence filled the room and he stood up, letting everyone know they could leave. The room cleared out pretty quickly but Soap stayed behind, facing Aspen and Simon. Once the room was completely empty he cleared his throat and began to stand up. He locked eyes with Simon as he pushed his chair in, giving him a look Aspen didn't understand.
"Johnny is there a problem?" Simon asked, sounding irritated.
"Nope, just noticed you guys were awful close... it doesn't matter though, as long as you're happy Simon" He replied, sounding honest and sincere.
With that he left the room, with Aspen and Simon alone again. The two were thinking about different things and after a moment Aspen stood up.
"I think it'd be best if I went to sleep now, have a goodnight L.t" Aspen said yawning.
Simon watched him leave the room and didn't say anything. His mind was a disaster of unrest and confusion. What the hell did Johnny mean by what he said. Was there something wrong about him and Aspen?
Simon's mind wouldn't stop and his thoughts only grew worse. He needed a moment to himself, but no time would cure his ailment. A broken heart and torn mind couldn't be fixed. Though he tried. Maybe Aspen could help, he usually seemed calm.
Standing up, Simon walked down the hall towards Aspen's quarters. His heart began pacing and a strange sensation came over him. Was it fear? Affection? Anticipation? He couldn't quite pick out the feeling.
Knocking on Aspen's door, Simon felt his hands begin to shake. Something wasn't right, something inside. Aspen opened the door and to Simon's surprise he had already changed. His 'evening' clothes were comfy pants and a sweatshirt.
"Hey Simon, please come in." Aspen said with a smile.
Silently he walked into the room, bruising past Aspen. When they passed eachother he felt little sparks, internally of course. It was something he hadn't felt in a while. While in his thoughts, Simon sat down on the desk chair Aspen had.
"You ok Simon?" Aspen asked with concern in his voice.
"No I- I'm not" Simon said, his voice cracking.
Aspen's facial expression immediately changed to worry and he walked over to Simon. Kneeling to be at the Simon's eye level, he searched Simon's eyes for something. Simon was holding back any emotion but he was in visible distress.
"You can talk to me Simon, about anything. I'm here for you." Aspen said softy, taking Simons hand and intertwining their fingers.
Simon looked into his eyes and inhaled shakily. "I'm not really... I'm not..." He tried to explain but his mind was so full of thoughts it began overwhelming him.
"My mind is full of horrible thoughts Aspen. Did I do something wrong? Why did Johnny look at me like that? Are we not meant to be together?! Everything is so damn confusing-" He tried to contain his feelings but they began spilling over and he raised his voice.
"I care about us but I don't know how I can move forward with all these questions. I don't need everyone's approval but I can't lose Johnny. He's the closest friend I've got. I hope you can forgive me for how I act." He continued, his voice now low and quiet.
"Simon I agree and understand but you need to let yourself breathe. Calm down a moment and realize that you don't have the answers to every question. I promise everything will be ok." Aspen replied, squeezing Simon's hand.
"If it would help you, I have some things that may help. My plants need water, you can write down how you feel, or if you want a hug I'm always here." He continued, watching Simon's expression change ever so slightly. His dark eyes lightened up and his gaze softened.
Aspen stood up and pulled Simon into his chest. They hugged eachother tightly as Simon felt his body relax. His stress and anxiety left, which were replaced by happiness.
"Can I stay with you tonight?" Simon asked quietly.
Aspen pulled away from him and made eye contact. Watching Simon's eyes wait for an answer made him happier than ever.
"Of course you can, but take your damn boots off" Aspen replied laughing.
With that Simon walked away to take off his gear and remained in normal clothes. Aspen was waiting by the bedside and when Simon began walking over he sat down. Simon proceeded to tackle Aspen and roll him onto his back.
"Hey what are you doing?!" Aspen cried out in laughter. Simons warm breath was on his neck as he leaned over Aspen's face.
"Nothing, just admiring your eyes." Simon replied, rolling onto his back on Aspen's left.
"UGH, you are so annoying" Aspen exhaled rolling his eyes.
Simon stayed quiet as Aspen rolled onto his side to sleep. Without any words Simon wrapped his arms around Aspen and moved his body to fit around Aspen's. The two closed their eyes and drifted off into a blissful sleep.
