The next morning arrived slowly, and Simon was the first to wake up. Aspen was fast asleep in Simon's arms, his warm chest rising and falling regularly. Simon didn't want to wake Aspen but he couldn't fall back asleep. Waiting for a moment, Simon watched Aspen in hopes he would wake up. Unfortunately he was knocked out and Simon had to try his best to get up without waking him.

Moving his arms away from Aspen, Simon quietly slipped away and headed towards the bathroom. He showered quickly and changed into new clothes, his gear ready in the corner of the room. Returning from the bathroom Simon laughed inaudibly as Aspen had flipped onto his other side and continued sleeping, nothing seemed to wake him up when he was really tired.

Leaving the room, Simon noticed rays of sunlight beginning to enter through the windows. The trees offered a little protection from the sun and made unique shadows that danced on the ground. Peeking outside Simon made sure nothing was out of the ordinary then closed the door behind him.

Considering it was late August, the crisp fall air was just starting to appear. Leaves fell from the trees and landed in little piles around the house. With the sun rising in the East, Simon walked up the road silently. His breath was barely visible as a cold breeze swept past him, causing the trees to sing soft songs. They sounded like hushed voices whispering to each other, and would get louder when the wind picked up. The scene was like something from a movie as the sunrise took on an orange color. In all of its beauty Simon continued walking, he wasn't going anywhere in particular but needed to get some fresh air before the day began.

It wasn't long before Simon got cold and had to turn around, walking with only his thoughts. There was nothing else to think about except for his own thoughts which continued to follow him. The sun was now taking shape above the horizon and Simon watched it appear through a group of clouds. Hopefully Aspen would be awake upon his return so they could spend time together, yet Simon didn't know how that would go. He was new to the whole relationship thing but was willing to give it a chance, for Aspen. The house was now in view and Simon quickened his pace to reach the front door.

Opening the front door, Simon was welcomed by the smell of tea and assorted foods. The house was warm and Aspen was waiting for Simon in the living room. He smiled and waved at Simon, hoping he was doing alright.

"I made some tea and a few things to eat, help yourself and join me. If you'd like." Aspen said gesturing towards the kitchen.

"Thanks Aspen." Simon replied walking into the kitchen.

There was a mug of tea that was still steaming on the counter as well as a plate with toast and eggs on it. Taking the mug with both hands, Simon savored the warm tea and let the mug heat up his cold hands. After a few sips he had a piece of toast and walked into the living room. Aspen was sitting on the couch his eyes shifted downward. He was deep in thought and Simon didn't disturb him, instead heading to the bedroom. Picking up his gear Simon put on each layer, it was like clockwork for him considering he'd been doing it for years. Including his mask Simon had everything on and left the room, heading towards where Aspen was still sitting.

"I'll take first watch, I plan to walk around the area and make sure everything is clear. We can switch later, just use the comms. Price hasn't said anything since yesterday so be ready for changes." Simon said quickly. He tried to make eye contact with Aspen who was looking everywhere but Simon's eyes. Confused with his response Simon walked over to Aspen and lifted his chin with his hand. Aspen's eyes were beautiful as always but something seemed off.

"Hey. Aspen what's wrong? Talk to me." Simon said with a concerned look on his face. Aspen was quiet for a moment and Simon continued staring into his unresponsive face. As much as Simon cared about Aspens response he worried about the job he had to do. This split him into two, making him question whether should he wait and help Aspen or leave and follow orders. Completely torn Simon asked once again, his tone intense and almost inconsiderate. He cared deeply for Aspen but as a soldier he knew he had to follow orders.

"I'm fine Simon, we can talk later. Go take watch." Aspen replied bluntly his eyes never meeting Simons.

Bewildered Simon left without a word, shutting the door with too much force. The noise made Aspen jump and he felt his eyes sting.

"Shit shit shit!" Aspen yelled grabbing his hair. His head was spinning and tears threatened to fall. He didn't want to push Ghost away but he had no idea how to explain his feelings. Simon cared a hell of a lot considering his reaction, and Aspen threw it away.

Overwhelmed by his thoughts Aspen stood up and ran to the bedroom. He retrieved his boots and gear, throwing them on as quickly as possible. He felt his heart rate increase even more and anxiety filled his body. Simon was everything to him and he was going to fix his mistake.

With his gear on Aspen ran out of the house and searched for Simon. He saw a figure just up the road and headed towards it as fast as he could. The figure was definitely Simon and once Aspen caught up he yelled Simon's name.

Simon turned around and saw Aspen who was running straight at him. Confused Simon walked towards him and allowed Aspen to hug him. Patting his back Simon held on tight and let his mind rest for a moment. When Aspen pulled away he had such a sad look in his eyes and Simon sighed.

"Aspen you know I care about you right? I'm here for you now, talk to me." Simon said watching him catch his breath.

A drop of rain hit Aspen's nose and trickled down his face. Looking up he watched clouds drift in the wind, their colors dark and gloomy. He looked back at Simon who was watching him, his eyes dark under his mask. The eyes that were so passionate now held a dim and depressed undertone.

"Simon I- I think- I want us to be together. Like more than we are..." Aspen began as the rain started to drench him.

"I want to say it, I really do- because I think it's true." He continued softly, rain falling off his hair in small drops.

Simon watched him curiously as Aspen's face that was already soaked began to turn red. He was blushing? Although it was definitely unprofessional, Simon couldn't stop caring about Aspen. He knew what he was going to say... and he was ready.

"Simon, I really really like you. I'm so worried it will ruin things but I'm going to be honest. I think I'm in love. With someone so beautiful, so kind, and so unpredictable. He's my world and I hope I can be part of his." Aspen said quickly, trying to not lose composure.

Simon was partially surprised by Aspen's words but he felt the same. He could let Aspen in, and care for him. Aspen had his eyes on Simon's and he blinked softly, even though his face was covered in rain. Simon gave in to his desires and lifted his mask to reveal his face. The rain dappled his face and hit his nose, causing a cold sensation.

"Aspen you are incredible and I can safely say that I love you too." Simon replied in his lowest yet softest tone.

Standing on his toes Aspen reached Simon's face and held it tight with his wet hands. Leaning in the two kissed as the rain continued to fall around them.

Finally, love at its finest.
