Yawning, Aspen rolled onto his back and streched, looking over to Simon who was awake. He was also on his back staring at the ceiling blankly. The comforter covered his lower half but his arms and chest were on full display when he met Aspen's eyes. He streched his back out which made the comforter move down a bit exposing his hips and just above his groin. Aspen's eyes widened but he looked away as his cheeks reddened. Laughing, Simon stood up and headed towards the small bathroom the motel provided. Aspen watched him the entire way though he tried to look away.

The sound of running water was first, then a shower starting. Going to investigate Aspen opened the door and looked around for Simon. The bathroom looked empty and he walked in further to try and find where Simon went. The door closed behind him and he jumped, turning around to face the door. Standing in front of it was Simon who towered over Aspen. He had a loosely wrapped towel around his waist and an indecipherable look on his face. Aspen met his gaze and walked closer curiously.

"Going for a shower?" Aspen asked, lifting a brow as Simon looked down to meet his eyes.

"I am. Care to join me?" Simon replied tracing Aspen's jawline with his finger. He leaned into Aspen's neck and began to gently kiss it. He was trying to be enticing and it was working. Aspen bit his lip and moaned softly into Simon's ear, which excited him even more. He pulled Aspen with him and let the loose towel fall. Together once again they were pressed chest to chest under the hot water of the shower. Simon admired Aspen while the water covered them both.

Steam filled the room as Aspen watched Simon's face change. They didn't have any lust or urge to have sex again, this was simply an intimate moment. Tired from the previous night, Aspen was grateful Simon wasn't going to try anything. There were some crappy motel soaps and shampoo which Aspen decided it was best to avoid. They ended up staying together under the constant stream of water for a while, occasionally kissing; but the water would tickle Aspen's face and he would pull away giggling.

"I think I'm going to hop out now." Simon whispered kissing Aspen's forehead softly.

Aspen reluctantly let him go and turned off the shower. Simon dried off and wrapped his lower half in the towel again. When Aspen stepped out of the shower Simon threw a towel at him which hit him in the face. Laughing, Simon watched Aspen make a grumpy expression as he dried his hair off. They both walked out of the bathroom and got dressed quickly.

Occasionally they would steal glances at each other from opposite sides of the bed. After they both were fully clothed Aspen suggested getting breakfast somewhere. Simon reluctantly agreed, even though he wanted to go back to the base. Thankfully he wasn't too stubborn and Aspen convinced him to go, with a few kisses of persuasion.

They stopped to eat at a small diner that was practically empty. It was decorated with vinyl, posters, and lights. The whole place felt like it was from the wrong century but Simon loved it. The waiter was very kind and told them stories about the diner and its past. Aspen was smiling for the entirety of the time they were there and Simon was happy for him. Simon ordered some tea, eggs, toast, and bacon which was the best meal he'd had in a while. Aspen ordered some waffles which Simon thought was hilarious. They shared laughter and a few bites of food until it was gone.

They paid the waiter and gave him a generous tip for his service. Hand in hand they left the diner and headed towards the truck which was close by.
They both hopped in and made sure all the groceries were still in the backseat. Nothing was severely perishable so they had no worries about the food. The truck rumbled to a start and they left the parking lot.

Simon was driving this time and Aspen admired him the entire time. While driving, Simon would reach over the center console and place his hand on Aspen's thigh. His hand was gentle but he pulled away and focused on the road. He seemed intent on getting back quickly. Once again Aspen noticed a bit of conflict in Simon's eyes. He didn't know what that meant or why but it was best to leave it alone.

In Simon's mind there was a lot going on. He wanted to run, to scream, to cry. There was no way to understand the guilt in his head, the secrets embedded in his heart, and the lies he couldn't tell. Aspen was oblivious to it all. Simon kept it hidden like a wound under a bandage.

"Simon are you okay?" Aspen broke the silence after a few minutes.

"I'm fine." He replied bluntly, staring at the road.

"Ok I hope so, just know you can tell me anything. I promise." Aspen whispered trying to get through to Simon.

"Thanks." Simon spoke with a monotone voice and stayed focused on the road.

Silence filled the truck and Aspen said nothing for the rest of the ride. Simon held back his emotions and bottled them up, saving his outburst of sadness for another day. The sun continued to rise above the mountains as the truck sped down the road. Everything felt very empty.
