The first rays of sunlight entered Aspen's room around 6am. Aspen pulled a blanket over his eyes to avoid looking at the sun which was slowly rising. Simon had his arms around Aspen's chest and grumbled when Aspen moved.
The best way to avoid the sunlight was flipping to face the other way. Or in Aspen's case, face Simon. Aspen tried to turn his body to face the other way but ended up waking Simon instead.
"Hey can you let me go so I can face you? The sun is burning the shit out of my eyes." Aspen said, his morning voice making its annoying appearance.
Simon reluctantly moved his arms and once Aspen had flipped he put them back. The two looked at each other with sleepy eyes and smiled. Aspen admired Simon's face even though he kept the mask on.
"You weren't kidding when you said you didn't take that off." Aspen laughed, watching Simon scowl.
"What do you want? Me to take it off?" Simon asked, his morning voice exceptionally lower than Aspen's.
Aspen felt his face heat up and began blushing. That was definitely the hottest Simon had sounded. Wondering if he was serious, Aspen nodded hoping Simon would take it off.
"Whatever you say pretty boy." Simon said pulling his mask off. His hair was a mess and he still had tired eyes. This didn't bother Aspen and he loved every bit of it.
"Do you have to be that attractive?" Aspen asked, fluffing Simon's hair around with his hand. Simon laughed and watched Aspen's face as he aimlessly messed with his hair.
"Only for you Aspen." He replied, a smile growing on his face.
Aspen felt his composure crumble at those words and closed his eyes. The world was perfect for a moment and he wished it would never change. He didn't know if it was love but no one had given him this kind of affection before. Though he tried, people never cared as much as he did. No one offered kindness in return for his love, which caused him to be closed off for years. Simon was the first person to actually give a shit about his life, and now they were closer than ever.
"What's on your mind Aspen, something up?" Simon asked tracing Aspens jawline with his hand. Aspen shook his head and assured Simon he was just tired. Simon was gentle and tried not to push too hard, knowing in the past he had hurt people when he wasn't careful. So many things in Simon's past had torn him into pieces and Aspen was the first person to care about each piece. No matter how destroyed or broken Simon was, Aspen still cared for him.
No words described the feelings they shared but the worst part was having to leave it behind. To suppress any feelings until they were together again. Neither of them were excited for it and Aspen didn't want to get up when the time came.
"Aspen come on, we need to be up and ready to go in 10 minutes. I know we'll be together again soon." Simon said kissing Aspen's forehead as he tried to get up.
Aspen pulled Simon's arm back and leaned in to kiss him. Their lips melted together and moved with delicate intimacy. This was the love they deserved.
When Simon pulled away Aspen let him go, watching him put his mask on as he got ready to leave. His gear was still beside Aspen's desk and he picked up the neat pile. Turning around he smiled at Aspen and opened the door. Leaving without a word, he closed the door behind him.
Aspen put his hand on the warm spot where Simon had just been. He already missed his sweet smile, soft but gritty hands, and stunning eyes. Pulling himself out of bed he stumbled to the shower and quickly got clean.
After he dried off and got dressed, he grabbed his gear. There was very little time left and he had to grab a quick snack from his stash. He made sure he wasnt forgetting anything and left his room at 6:57.
Aspen arrived in the conference room right on time, noticing a few empty chairs. He sat down by himself and soon after was joined by Soap, Gaz, Price, and the rest of the team. Simon arrived last and sat across from Aspen, not making eye contact. They had to suppress their feelings as expected, and it was hell.
"Morning team. If you are going to be moving supplies, please step out and wait for orders. If you are part of the assault team, stay put." Price yelled, announcing his presence from the doorway.
Aspen, Simon, and four other people stood up to leave. The room was quiet as they left and Price acknowledged them with a nod. Closing the doors behind him, he spoke quickly, "everything you need to move is by the west entrance. Take it and move it to these locations." Price handed each of them a mini-map with marked locations.
"Once you have moved them, take some food and clothes. You'll be staying in the safehouses to guard them until further notice. If all goes well we should be safe and back in no time." He continued.
"Be ready for anything and don't let anyone in or out without my permission. Understood?" He asked, looking at each person.
"Yes sir." They replied in unison.
"Good, now get going. Aspen you and Simon will take location A, you two will take B, and the others will have C." Price said to everyone, dividing the group into 3 duos.
Nodding, the teams began to leave. Aspen went to his room to retrieve a few necessities and food. He filled his backpack with anything that seemed helpful, and took one last look at his room. His plants on the windowsill seemed to smile and wave goodbye.
With that, he turned out the lights and left in silence. Walking down the hall he noticed Simon had already cleared out his room. Waiting by the door, Simon waved to Aspen and greeted him softly as they walked together.
"You ready to go?" He asked, his tone firm but kind.
"Yep, lets start with those boxes over there." Aspen replied pointing to his right.
