Here's another new one, I'm working on a new different story so this one is on hiatus but I have two chapters left in drafts for you to read soon. Hope you understand and maybe would be interested in reading my new story. The style will be a little different and a totally new plot :) Soap and Ghost with interesting twists hehe. See you fellas soon)
It had been two weeks since anyone had seen Soap. He was not anywhere near the base, not in a town nearby, nor a safehouse. It was like he disappeared. Simon was distraught and did everything he could to try and find Soap. He went out for hours on end and found nothing each time. Price had no idea what was going on nor where Soap could have ended up, but Simon wouldn't tell him.
"You're sure you don't know why he would have left?" Price asked, staring into Simon's eyes. They were in the command center and Price was trying to organize a plan to find Soap. Simon was trying to help but he hid the truth from everyone. The only person who could see through him was Aspen. The days dragged on as Simon tried to hold back everything, the truth, his guilt, and why Soap really left. He noticed Price staring at him with a gaze that resembled a father missing his son and it tore him apart to lie to his face.
"No sir I don't know where he went. Or why." Simon spoke as clearly as possible, willing his voice not to crack.
Price furrowed his brow, Simon had answered his question but something was off. Usually his answers were clear and exactly reflecting the question. There was something Simon was hiding and Price couldn't get it out of him. He called for Aspen who was across the room from them and dismissed Simon. Once Simon was gone Aspen asked Price what was going on.
"I know Simon damn well enough to see when something is bothering him, and right now I think there is something he isn't being honest about. I know you two are close so I need to ask a favor." Aspen was intrigued by Price's words and also very aware that something was wrong with Simon.
"Can you try to get through to Simon? If not that, check around if he has anything that could reveal what's going on. I know it will be tough but I'm sure you can do it." Price asked, his tone gentle.
"I'll try." Aspen replied with a hopeful smile.
With that he left the room and went to go get Rex. He was planning to take him out for a walk and to refresh his mind. Rex was excited as ever to see him when he arrived in the room and continued to wag his tail as they walked down the hall. Aspen knocked on Simon's door and waited with Rex who sat patiently. Simon opened the door and he smiled a bit under his mask. Rex jumped up and almost tackled Simon as he pressed his paws into Simon's chest.
"Hey Rex! How are you buddy?" Simon patted Rex's head and scratched under his chin. Rex barked with happiness then hopped off Simon's chest to sit back down.
"I'm taking him for a walk, would you like to come?" Aspen asked with a weak smile.
Simon thought about the offer for a moment then agreed reluctantly. It had been days since he had left the base. The two walked together and Rex led the way, his tail wagging as he sniffed the ground. Once the two made it a reasonable distance from the base Aspen let his hand bump the back of Simon's. They laced their fingers together and walked hand in hand for a while. The world fell silent for a while as they walked, only a gentle breeze shaking the leaves off of trees. The battlefront in Simon's mind was getting worse by the minute, his forces were failing. All he wanted was to be with the one he loved but that image was fuzzy.
Not far from their location was the safehouse they stayed in a few months back. The memories flooded both of their minds as they followed Rex. He was heading straight towards where they first found him. Simon checked if the door was unlocked and it opened easily, letting the cold air seep into the house.
