chapter one

THE BELL RANG and Ava shot up, she quickly walked out of her class to go and find Jordan now that it was break. She turned her head around every corner and hallway in hopes that she would find her friend.

She gently pushed her way through the crowd and scanned every person in search of the brunette. She knew Jordan would come to school, she just didn't know where she was.

After five minutes, Ava realised that the girl most likely wasn't in the main building. She sighed and walked to the front doors and pushed them open, sun poured onto the girl's face as she scanned the empty playground.

She let out a breath of air and walked over to a picnic bench, dumping her books and bag on top of it. Ava decided she might as well scope out the area for her friend.

TEN MINUTES WENT BY and Ava couldn't see her friend anywhere, her eyes brows furrowed until she heard the familiar chanting of school kids.

'Not again...' The blonde thought to herself as she pinched the bridge of her nose. She sucked in a breath of air and began walking to the front doors.

But by the time Ava had gotten close to the doors Jordan had angrily pushed her way out. The blonde grinned and grabbed Jordan's arm, dragging her to a picnic bench.

Ava felt Jordan tense under her touch before quickly softening when Jordan realised that it was Ava and not some random person.

She sat Jordan down at the picnic bench, "Really? Again?" The blonde asked, examining Jordan's busted and bruised face.

Ava crossed her arms over her chest and sent a pointed look towards her friend.

Her best friend.

Ava watched as Jordan scoffed and rolled her eyes, she copied Ava's actions and crossed her arms over her chest. The blonde giggled at her friend's actions, Ava took the small first aid kit out from her bag and sat down in front of Jordan.

Ava always had to carry a first aid kit around, some people thought it was strange and some of her friends would raise an eyebrow.

But to Ava, it was obvious why she had to carry a first aid kit. Her best friend was Jordan Richards.

AVA SCOFFED AS she leaned against her kitchen counter. Her parents were in a 'mood', she just had to wait for them to get out of it.

Her parents were currently in the living room being all lovey-dovey, which made Ava sick. They were cuddling against each other, whispering and giggling sweet nothings in the ears of the other, completely lost in their own world.

The blonde had cleared her throat multiple times trying to make it known that she was in fact in the room, but it didn't work as they were too infatuated with themselves to notice the blonde.

She loved her parents. And they loved her too, they just got a bit out of hand when it came to showing their undying love for one another.

Ava always wondered about Jordan's family, she knew her mother wasn't in the picture but she was curious about her father.

What was her father like to make her so Jordan? The blonde didn't even have an image in her mind of what he looked like, but whatever he was, she knew it was most likely bad.

Because the fights Jordan normally gets into don't lead to bruises or handprints on her shoulders, broken wrists, or a swollen cheek. Whenever she saw Jordan in that sort of state she would try her hardest to not burst into tears.

Maybe that's why Ava walked up to the girl one day. At first, she didn't know why she did it because all her friends had warned her against it, talking about how Jordan is "evil" or a "Spawn of Satan."

Some say that Ava became friends with Jordan out of pity, even the blonde's parents had wondered about it.

But that wasn't the case.

Ava didn't become friends with the girl out of pity, sure she felt bad for her because she had no friends, but the main reason was that she was curious.

She was curious about what went through Jordan's mind and what made the girl tick.

Why she acted in that way, or why she said what she said? It intrigued the blonde and slowly drew her in like a siren's song.

Ava would be lying if she said she didn't mind being lured in by Jordan.

When they first became friends Ava would often find herself admiring the brunette, and it wasn't because she looked up to the girl.
