chapter six

THE NEXT DAY, Ava walked down the quiet streets of Denver. She was meant to meet with Jordan but the brunette was late so Ava was walking around the area they were meeting at.

The girl popped her head into Grab N' Go to glance at the clock on the wall, 2:38 pm. Jordan was late by thirty-eight minutes, Ava wanted to be annoyed with her friend but she knew she couldn't.

There must've been a reason for Jordan being late. The girl walked down to the abandoned skate rink (where they were meant to meet) and sat down on the ledge of the pavement, her knees in her chest as she waited for the brunette to make her arrival. After five minutes she heard someone walking towards her.

"I swear we've met like this before, there was just a lot of rain," An unfamiliar voice spoke, Ava turned her head up, meeting eyes with Finney Blake. She sent him a half smile.

The brunette smiled. Ava patted the seat beside her, inviting him to sit down, and he did.

"Why're you here by yourself? Where's your friend?" Finney asked, referring to Jordan.

Ava shrugged, "she's late so I'm waiting for her. Why are you alone?"

"My sister is with her friend, and my friend is sick," Ava frowned slightly, "well I'm sorry your friend is ill, what about your other friends?"

Finney just sent her a sheepish smile, "oh... sorry," the girl mumbled earning a slight laugh from the brunette beside her.

"It's okay," Ava smiled, "do you want to hang out because I don't think my friends coming?" She offered.

Finney nodded and the two stood up.

They walked down the street to the arcade as it was usually more quieter than Grab N' Go. Finney opened the door for the blonde who smiled gratefully and walked inside.

"What do you want to do?" Finney asked her, taking a few quarters out of his pocket. Ava thought for a moment before being distracted by a bright machine.

"That one!" She exclaimed staring at the two spaces, Finney glances at her slightly.

"Just dance?" Ava nodded with a grin on her lips. She quickly walked over to it, beckoning Finney to join her.

He cautiously walked over, an eyebrow raised, "why do I have to join in?" Ava shrugged, popping in a few quarters in each.

"Come on Finney," The game started and Finney sighed, standing beside her on it.

THE TWO KIDS walked out of the arcade with smiles on their faces, if you saw the two you wouldn't think that before today they'd only spoken a maximum of 5 words to one another.

Already they seemed comfortable with one another and it had only been two hours of them actually conversing. Ava said her goodbyes to Finney and walked back home with a big smile on her face.

When she got inside her mother was reading a newspaper while her father was cooking dinner, "did you have fun dear?" Her mother asked and Ava nodded.

"It was great fun!" Her mother smiled at her and Ava walked upstairs to her bedroom, as if on cue the phone against her wall began ringing.

She picked it up and placed it against her ear, "hello?"

"Ava I'm so sorry," She heard Jordan's voice on the other end, and Ava smiled.

"What happened?" The girl asked, leaning against the wall.

"I didn't meet you, I was going to, but then I couldn't, I'm sorry."

Ava shook her head although Jordan couldn't see her, "It's alright Jor, honestly."

"We can hang out tomorrow?" Jordan asked, and even though Jordan wouldn't let it show, Ava could hear the hopefulness in her voice.

"Sure, let's hang out tomorrow, meet at Grab N' Go."

"Yeah, I need to go now, I'll talk to you later."

"Goodbye."

"Bye."
