Harry Styles

Short Chapter :)

My eyes shot open. I inhaled deeply and looked around the room.

I'm just in the living room.

Sadie's head was resting on my chest. She was completely on top of me, both of us on the couch. Her hand was dangling off the couch. I looked down and saw Max sleeping on the floor.

They were holding hands.

I looked at the other couch. Kay and Meg were cuddled up closely on the couch. I very carefully managed to get Sadie off of me without waking her or Max up. I stood up from the couch, walking towards the kitchen.

I had a funny dream.

It was Sadie, Max, a baby, and I in a pretty white house. Kind of like the one from The Notebook. We just lived a day together. Max called Sadie mom and he called me dad. Sadie was carrying a baby around the house as she danced.

I sang and danced with Max in the kitchen. He was stepping on my toes so he was taller.

I wasn't famous, and Sadie and Max had never been abused. We were just a family. We danced in our house with no worries in the world.

Then I started to smell smoke. I thought maybe Sadie left something in the oven too long. I couldn't find where this smell was coming from.

Right before my eyes, the house burst into flames.

I yelled for everyone. All I could hear was their screams. I found Sadie and she was holding Max in the middle of the living room. I'm a circle of flames she was screaming for him to wake up.

The baby was gone like it was never there in the first place.

It shook me up so much.

I was actually sweating like there was a real fire.

"Bad dream?" I heard Kay speak behind me as I filled a glass with water.

"Yeah, actually," I nodded and laughed. "You?" I asked, grabbing a glass for her. I filled it with water and handed it to her.

"Thank you," she took it from me and smiled. "No, I've never been able to sleep through the night," she shook her head shrugging. "Ever since I was little I just could never sleep through the whole night. My parents got pretty concerned and took me to a specialist," she paused. "Do you mind if I kind of dump a lot of dark shit on you?" She laughed.

"Not at all," I shook my head. "I'm always here for you Kay," I gave a sympathetic smile.

"The doctor said, this could be because of anxiety," she raised her eyebrows. "Paranoia was his main suspicion," she took a dream of her water and crossed her arms. "A lot of kids who are sexually abused have trouble sleeping through the whole night," my heart sunk to my stomach. I gulped, trying to take it in.

"My uncle drank a lot." She swirled her water in her cup. "He lived with us after he got evicted from his apartment. He would drink all day and at night he would slip into my room," a frown grew on my face. "I spare the gory details, but I would always wake up right before he came in, anticipating it," she scoffed. "I mentally prepared myself and let it happen." She explained.

"The doctor suggested I was being abused and my parents looked at me with such sad looks on their faces. They said 'Uncle Ray?'" I laughed. "It's like they knew," she had a disgusted look on her face. "They knew," sadness filled her eyes. "They didn't want him to get upset and cause a fight, so they just hoped they were wrong," I walked, closer to her. "They eventually kicked my uncle out and swore nothing like that would ever happen to me again. I haven't talked to them since Megan was born." She shook her head and looked me in the eyes.

"I was even scared to let Megan come here the first few times." Her voice broke. "If I ever suspected or even thought someone was doing that to her I would commit crimes," she smiled. "But they didn't want to start a fight so they let him do that to me every night," she shrugged. I immediately pulled her into a hug.

"I know this means nothing but I would never do that. Megan is always safe here, you are always safe here." I rubbed her back softly, resting my chin on her head.

"I'm glad Megan has a father figure like you I'm her life. Even if technically you'd be her uncle because Sadie is her aunt," she laughed. "But you'll be a better example for her than my uncle or father ever was," she nodded and pulled away. "Thank you," she nodded.

"You don't have to thank me." I shook my head.

"Not just for that. Thank you for making my girl happy again. I thought I might lose Sadie before she met you," she put her head on my arm and smiled. "You saved her, Harry," she turned around and almost started walking but she stopped. "Can you not tell Sadie about this?" She turned around. "I haven't told her yet," she pressed her lips together.

"Of course," I smiled and nodded.

She walked out of the kitchen without another word. I genuinely felt sick to my stomach after that. I took a deep breath and downed the rest of my water.

I've only heard a brief explanation of what Sadie and Max went through. What if the same thing was happening to Sadie? I'll let her tell me when she is ready, but I wish I knew everything.

I took another deep breath before walking back into the living room. Kay was sitting next to Meg, running her fingers through her hair.

"She sleeps a lot huh?" I smiled softly as I sat next to her.

"She's always slept so much," Kay laughed quietly. "When she was first born, she slept all night. It worried me at first, but the doctors said she was a normal, healthy baby girl," Kay shrugged.

"Do you think Sadie will ever want to have kids?" I looked at Meg as she slept.

"Slow down bucko, you haven't even known her for a year," Kay raised her eyebrows.

"Not right now," I swatted her on the arm. "Just, eventually," I shrugged.

"I think she might be scared to for a while." Kay nodded. "But I think you make her feel safer than she's ever felt her whole life." She smiled and leaned her head on my shoulder. "You make me feel safe too." I felt a smile grow on my face.

My whole life, I've been pretty fortunate. If i could trade lives with these girls, I would. I would take all of their pain and trauma for them to be okay.

I love Sadie. I think I'm in love with her actually.

I love Kay, she's a great friend.

I love Meg, like she's my own.

I love Max already, I hope he can trust me enough to love me too.
