Back in the Shimmering Plane, Shocker was assisting Herman in using some of Nic'qura's old technology to create a weapon strong enough to obliterate Malcorchus and Caspian's Control Pylon when the time was right, to cement their betrayal whenever The Viper was taken care of. The two of them were in an off-site, one-story building that Malcorchus had granted to Herman for his use shortly after Caspian and Mitchell had first departed to Earth, after the First Blade had informed the king of Herman's desire to tinker with the Shimmering Plane's technology designs.

The rather-complicated outer casing of the blaster was nearly complete; the weapon itself was somewhat large, but could still be carried by one hand while occasionally requiring the other one to reload. Of note, it consisted of a handle, a trigger, a barrel, a reloading mechanism below the barrel that resembled that of a pump-action shotgun, and a glass casing near the back containing an electric orb with a reddish-pink hue that seemed to serve as its power source.

"I'd say that's looking pretty good," Herman commented as he snipped a few wires with his pair of cutters. "Thanks for providing it with that 'battery' of yours."

"No problem. But.....are you sure this thing is going to work?" Shocker asked uncertainly.

"Oh, no question. This gun is made from the same material as the Control Pylon, so if my hypotheses are correct, it should be able to blow that pillar to smithereens before it can issue any signals to the other ones."

"And what about the other four?"

"The other four pylons rely on the Control Pylon's transmissions in order to be able to do anything," Herman elaborated. "We take out the Control Pylon, and the other four will be useless sitting ducks."

"Kind of weird for Malcorchus and Caspian to not come up with any kind of backup plan in the event that the Control Pylon gets destroyed, now, does it?"

At that moment, Herman finished welding the inner workings of the gun and promptly closed the side compartment. "A very novice mistake, but one that I'm fully willing to take advantage of." He lifted the firearm off the table and placed it into Shocker's grasp. "You want to try it out first?"

"Me? Why?"

"You provided it with power, did you not? It wouldn't even be functional if it weren't for you. So I say you should get the first shot at it."

"Okay.....so what exactly am I going to shoot at? We can't destroy the building."

Herman smirked. "Come outside with me."

He led her out of the building and back into the main city, where there were still several struggling Enlightened Ones crawling across the streets and groaning in pain, just as there were during their tour with Caspian.

Herman lightly hit Shocker in the arm. "Hey, there's a guy over there. Look at him.....sitting on his butt and drinking like there was no tomorrow. What do you say we do a little 'target practice'?"

Shocker chuckled. "You don't have to tell me twice."

She carefully took aim, positioning the weapon's sights right over his unsuspecting frame. Then, she pulled the trigger.

A bright bolt of light-blue energy shot out of the barrel at an alarmingly high speed, making contact with the man and instantly vaporizing him on contact, similar to how the Enlightened Ones "died" whenever they ran out of essence.

Herman and Shocker cheered triumphantly and gave each other a high-five, still taking care to not draw too much attention to themselves. Enlightened Ones dying as a result of dissipation or vaporization was an unfortunately common sight in the Shimmering Plane, so almost no one suspected any kind of foul play.
