Meanwhile, back on Earth, the rest of the Paragons and their allies had grown restless while waiting for The Viper to return, and were sitting in scattered positions around the ring of rose petals while eating the chicken biscuits that Duncan had bought from Chick-Fil-A.
"So, boss.....did the cashier ask why you were ordering around 300 chicken biscuits?" The Crawler asked curiously.
"I just told them I was catering to a birthday party," the doctor responded. "If I told them that there was currently an alien invasion going on in Times Square, that The Viper essentially committed suicide to save us, that we were unsure of whether or not she was coming back, and that we were waiting for her.....what are the chances of them believing that?"
Dean walked over, sat next to Duncan and The Crawler, and sighed. "Hailey used to love these....." he lamented.
Duncan and The Crawler looked confusedly at each other, then back to Dean.
"Umm.....are you actually talking to us right now?" Duncan inquired.
"Yeah! Why wouldn't I?"
"You're not mad at me for the whole 'Herculean Serum' incident?"
"No, of course not! Hailey told me everything about what happened back then, and it looks like you're in a really good place now! Heck.....you joined in the group prayer earlier, so you're cool in my book!"
A happy smile spread across the doctor's face. "Well.....thanks! Glad to be working with you!"
At that moment, The Crawler accidentally dropped his chicken biscuit and it rolled across the pavement into the middle of the pink rose petals.
The reptilian snickered to himself at his mistake. ".....Whoops."
"Five second rule!" Duncan called as he rushed over into the center to pick it up.
However, just when he was about to reach out for it, The Viper and Malcorchus suddenly teleported in right in front of him, giving him a scare.
"AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
Seeing this, everyone immediately jumped into action and prepared to assist her.
Giorgio Carlisle ordered his forces to turn the turrets on their vehicles towards the former king, while Commissioner Marvin directed his officers to hold Malcorchus at gunpoint.
Walter, Clara, and most of the other Paragons looked ready to charge forward, but The Viper motioned for all of them to stand down. Coldsnap was about to throw another snow grenade---despite the fact that there were innocents nearby---forcing The Crawler to tackle her to the ground.
"Okay, okay, okay.....too much, I get it!" the icy heroine said. "Can you get off me?!"
The lizard allowed her to get up, at which point she stashed the snow grenade back in her utility belt.
The Viper and Malcorchus continued to push against each other's grasp, with the heroine honestly being surprised that he was still going despite his heart injury from her Toxin Blade. Soon, The Viper managed to shove the former king away and hit him with a body straight, causing him to keel over. Then, she put some distance between the two of them, ran to Duncan's side, took out her two twin daggers, and channeled them with her mutant-given power, causing their blades to glow a bright-green.
She had no snide remarks, mocking insults, or last words for the former king. He had endangered not one, but two worlds with his impatience, and if she let him go, he would no doubt return. At that point, she didn't want to waste any more time talking to him; she just wanted him gone.
