"What?!" Malcorchus exclaimed in disbelief. "Surely this news cannot be true.....all four transport pylons have been destroyed?"

Shocker looked down, feigning remorse. "Yes, Your Majesty.....I hope you can forgive us for our shortcomings."

"Yes....." Mitchell added. "The heroes just swooped in and obliterated them faster than we could react.....it all happened so fast....."

"Mal'tin and Gor'bari have also perished once more," Nic'qura revealed, barely managing to hold back her sadness. "Please tell me you can bring them back later....."

The king stroked his chin as he analyzed the situation. The pillars responsible for facilitating the Shimmering Plane's teleportation to Earth were now a thing of the past; the Control Pylon was all that was left now. Rather surprisingly, though, he still took it all in stride.

"Indeed, I can. But no matter.....once we get the Control Pylon, that'll be all we need. Look above you; the transport pylons have served their purpose nonetheless. Our dimension enters Earth's orbit as we speak!" Malcorchus proclaimed.

Shocker, Herman, Mitchell, Nic'qura, Sin'lazo, and Sal'terra gazed upward and bore witness to the massive portal opening up in the skies above Times Square, bringing the full might of the Shimmering Plane through it. Caspian, who was still patrolling the area in his jet, briefly paused his flight path momentarily to also glance up at it.

"How long do we have until it's fully here, Your Majesty?" Herman asked, a tinge of concern in his voice. He wasn't sure on whether or not he, Shocker, and Mitchell were running out of time to betray him. When the time was right, though, he would be ready. The pylon-destroying superweapon was still strapped to his back; he had kept it with him ever since the siege on Times Square began.

"Normally, it would take several hours, but once we get our hands on the Control Pylon, it should be here before we know it. And I have the perfect plan to get it.....you six just wait right here," the king ordered.

Powerhouse, The Crawler, Coldsnap, Walter, Clara, Commissioner Marvin, Giorgio Carlisle, and the rest of the combined team initially had the upper hand against Malcorchus's army on the ground, fiercely defending The Viper's pod with everything they had while waiting for Duncan and Nightclaw to rendezvous back up with them in the doctor's aircraft.

In the van carrying Dean, Amy, Jaden, Adriana, and Diamond, Dean sadly gazed across the way at the pod containing his daughter.

"Come on, Hailey....." he whispered to himself. "Hold on.....help is on the way."

Amy, on the other hand, was outright sobbing. "What if they aren't able to save her.....? Maybe this whole 'being the parents of a superhero' thing isn't as cool as we had thought....."

Adriana glanced at Jaden, an excited smile forming on her face. "You didn't tell me Hailey was The Viper!"

"Or me, either!" Diamond added. "I mean.....if her life wasn't in danger at the moment, this would've been one of the best days ever. We're best friends with the protector of Mercury Heights!"

"Yes.....sorry for not telling you two before," Jaden confessed. "She initially swore me to secrecy, but now, I guess the cat's out of the bag. Besides, the situation is pretty dire right now, anyway."

Just then, to their dismay, the heroes and their allies soon found themselves outnumbered and outgunned by the interdimensional forces. Coldsnap was knocked off of her ice dragon and sent plummeting to the hard pavement, the turrets on top of the GDC's vehicles had run out of ammo---and would take a while to reload---and Duncan's tricked-out convertible had ran out of gasoline, thus bringing The Crawler to a screeching halt.
