Commissioner Marvin cocked his handgun and rallied his police squad, while Carlisle gathered what remained of the combined GDC and FBI agents. Meanwhile, The Crawler began using the spare red gasoline jug to refuel Duncan's convertible.
"We will cover you," the council head promised. "We'll keep Malcorchus's army at bay and prevent any more troops from entering the battle while you fight your way to the king and the others."
"What are we even going to do when we get that Control Pylon?!" Powerhouse exclaimed. "Were we just going to destroy it, or.....?"
Duncan nodded. "Anything that prevents Malcorchus from using it! It's already served its real purpose!"
Coldsnap whistled, summoned her newly-recovered ice dragon to her side, and hopped onto its back. "I'll take care of the last few spaceships and clear the skies for your aircraft to move through safely," she stated. "Should be smooth sailing for you. Or.....smooth flying, I guess. Whatever."
Powerhouse clapped his hands as he formulated another plan. "Okay, here's what we're going to do! Duncan, now that you're here, you can focus on driving your convertible while The Crawler operates the harpoon gun. Drive around the square and eliminate as many of Malcorchus's soldiers as possible; clear our passageway to the tower. You can't go back to using your plane right now, anyway.....at least not until Coldsnap is done clearing out the airspace."
"Understood," the doctor replied.
"Now.....Nightclaw, you're pretty much invincible, so you just get in there and start killing enemies left and right. The more of them die, the better. That's what you love doing most, right? I've more or less just accepted it at this point; it's who you are, and no one can take that away from you."
"You know it!" she yipped.
"Walter, Clara, join Nightclaw in taking out the foes on the ground. Swoop in, slash, and disappear before they even know what hit them."
"You don't have to tell us twice," Walter answered. "Clara's been itching to get some more combat practice in, anyway."
"And what about me?" The Viper asked.
"You just stay with Duncan and help him with any soldiers that he misses. I'll also be nearby," Powerhouse instructed.
"Paragons! Get to the tower! Move!" Carlisle ordered. "GDC, attack!"
Commissioner Marvin nodded. "MHPD.....HIT IT!"
***********************************************************************************************
After retrieving the Control Pylon from The Viper without a fight, Malcorchus teleported back to the roof of the New York Times Tower and placed it into its slot on the device he had made.
"Malcorchus, Your Majesty....." Nic'qura greeted with a bow.
"Chief scientist.....for all The Viper's power and bravado, she ultimately could not stop me from this....." the king said cockily. "Now, we claim this planet!"
Mitchell looked over the edge of the building's roof and witnessed The Viper battling her way through the king's army. He had been satisfied with his revenge when he appeared to have killed her during the battle on the GDC helipad, but since she had been brought back to life, he felt as though his work had been undone.
His fists clenched tightly with hatred and anger as he watched the newly-revived superheroine cut her way through Malcorchus's forces like a hot knife through butter, despite the fact that he himself was also secretly against the king. Even though they wanted the same goal, he still despised her with all his heart.
