AVA'S POV

I don't get it he was okay when he was in school today.

Come to think of it I didn't see him much at school. What did you get yourself into Nathan? Sandra please be okay.

"How is they?" I asked in panic after seeing Karen seated next to Sandra while Cass and Derrick are next to Nathan.

"Sandra's in a coma, barely clinging to life. The doctors can't diagnose what's actually wrong with her but they said her brain is in some hyperactive state her body can't keep up with. If this should keep on going she'll be dead in few days. Nathan's is okay as you can see." Cass explained while pointing towards Nathan who looks depressed staring at Sandra's lifeless body.

"Karen?. . . Karen. . . Can't you do anything?" She remains quiet staring Sandra with shedding a single tear." I don't want to lose my best friend, Karen." Tears run down my eyes.

"You think if I knew what to do I wouldn't. I don't want to lose my baby girl too." She said crying letting the tears flow freely while maintaining her posture." I'm a fucking doctor for crying out loud. . . I treat inhuman bastards. . . Yet I can't take care of my own daughter. . ." She turned around leaning on me while we both cried. "I'm a fucking useless mother."

I heard Nathan sob before leaving the room to pic up a phone call only for him to return as soon as he came back.

"He wants to talk to you." Nathan's voice holding venom and disgust.

I know damn well who the he is.

"WHAT DO YOU WANT? LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE. . . I'LL DO IT JUST BRING HER BACK. . . HOW CAN I TRUST YOU. . ." She ends the call bye smashing Nathan's phone on the wall.

"I just bought that phone." Nathan deadpanned in a hoarse voice due to the tears he's been holding back.

"You are about to hate me for a whole lot worse than a broken phone but I can't let my only daughter die because I care for you."

"What do mean?" I asked.

"Nathan I just want you too know that everything I did when taking you in. . . I did it because I care about you. I'm going to tell you what happened during Project Legacy"

"Twenty two years ago, the U.S government wanted to create new weapons. Not just any weapons, they wanted something that wouldn't need to reload during war front. Something that would completely change the game in warfare. They were looking for bio weapons."

"Bio weapons?" I asked confused.

"Biologically made weapons."

"I get that but who was going to be subject to this "bio weapons"" I asked using air quotes.

"Humans."

"What?!" Cassandra exclaimed.

"How many people died in this experiment of yours?" Nathan asked.

"Let me finish. Don't interrupt me again until I'm done okay?"

"I figured it's high time we told you this story." Someone's familiar voice chipped in.

"Dad." I went over to hug him. I hadn't seen him in so long but now that he's here the vibe in the air got murderous and dark and as much as I miss him this is going to be bad.

"Hey kiddo."

"What are you doing here Gabriel?" Karen asked bittered.

"It's not only your secret to tell. It's mine to."

"You fucking leave me and now you're back on your own to tell the truth and support me. Come up with some better bullshit than that."

"Like it or not your not the only one that has loved ones in this place. I need to take care of my baby girl. I'm not ready to let her be the sacrifice for my sins."
