The eerie silence of the palace gives me chills. Even past 6 am, we worked on finding the culprit from the guests of the masquerade ball. But it was impossible because, according to the workers, no one had worn the sea blue colour as the night's colours were dark colours.
It made us wonder what the whole mix-up was. Finally, Dew concluded maybe the murderer appeared to wear blue at that moment, or maybe it was a whole other person from the outside of the palace.
Things gave me a headache, so I threw things across the room and asked everyone to leave. As expected, Bright didn't leave and convinced me to take some rest. So at 6 am, I finally went to sleep with him watching over me.
In my dreams, it is only the Viscountess whispering to me that I am the reason why she got killed... that all the chaos is happening because of me.
I wake up gasping for air and feel fear creeping through my body. But Bright soothes me down, and I realise he hasn't got a wink of sleep as I was shaking in my sleep.
"You should rest some more," he says.
"No." I shake my head. "My conscience says all these abnormal things are happening because of me. I want to know... why she got killed. I- we should meet the-"
"Shh... why don't your highness take a refreshing bath? Come out, and we can solve these things."
Bright somehow convinces me to take a wash, and I do. After taking the wash, we walk out of my room with Prim following us from behind. When we arrive at the front porch of the palace, I find Joss talking with Dew.
So I walk to them out of curiosity.
"It's good you are here, your highness," Dew says. "My spies reported some suspicious acts of those noblemen. I have the reports with proof," he says.
"And Win. I can confirm his claims. I have some underlings too. But there's no help I can do. It's all up to you."
"You are confusing me," I exclaim. "What's it all about?"
"It turns out the noblemen are gathering power for treason. But only a few are collaborating on it. I found proof that they have gathered men to form an army and dry rations for the men as well. Also, there's proof from overseas transactions of buying weapons, including the newly made arrows from the Han Dynasty." Dew explains the whole thing in a few words, and it makes me feel lightheaded.
Joss is silent while Dew says those, and he looks away.
"You have anything to add?" I ask him.
"I- yeah." he nods. "I can confirm his claims. It's true."
"What..." I chuckle. It isn't a happy chuckle but a painful one. An exhausted, exasperated chuckle because I don't know how else to react. My whole body feels numb, and my racing heart is audible in my ears. I only come back to my senses when Bright places his hand firmly on the small of my back.
