They're gonna chase me. They want it to be a game. I bet they have another cell ready for me when they catch me.
Let them. I will not go down without a fight. I keep running to the trees and dodge as many as I can. My shoulders hit one every now and then and I stumble, but get back up. I've been running for an hour, though it felt like centuries.
I drop to the ground panting. My lungs burn and my ribs scream. My arms shake as I try to push myself off to keep running. My body refused to move. I drop down and let it rest. I take the knife out of my side and drop it.
Afraid to stay still too long I get back up and start walking. Anything will do. As long as I'm not dead.
As I come across an opening in the trees I see a flock of birds fly above my head. What scared them? My mind instantly went to my surroundings. If someone was with me then they would have to make a noise. Or a shadow or a figure. Anything out of the ordinary. Come on Nova think.
I hide in the trees as I see a movement from the corner of my eye. A wolf trots out the tree line right across from where I'm at. I sigh in relief knowing that no one was following me to take me back. They definitely would have caught up by now with all my injuries.
The wolf's ears perk up and he walks in my direction. Damn it. He must have heard me. He makes eye contact with me and starts running right at me. I push off a tree and start running as fast as I can. I know it's not fast enough.
I feel a huge paw push on my back and I fall to the ground. "Ah!" I scream out in pain as my ribs and shoulder hit the ground. "Fuck. I knew I was gonna die but why does it have to be by a wolf? Why couldn't I just choke on a fucking chicken bone or something while peacefully watching TV at home?" I sobbed to no one in particular.
The wolf's weight disappeared and was replaced by a pair of hands that turned me over onto my back. "What are you doing in our territory?" A man's voice snapped. I opened my eyes and panicked. "W-wheres the wolf. What h-happened to it?"
The man was confused and stood up. "Where are you from? I'll help you get home. You shouldn't be out here." He helped me up and stopped as I stood. "What happened to you?" He questioned, noticing my pain and bloody appearance.
I look at him and then turn around. "I fell," I replied. As I'm walking away he steps in front of me and puts his hands on my shoulders. He puts his nose up and looks like he's smelling the air around me. "Three broken ribs. 7 stab wounds. Is that a silver knife? But yeah. You fell, ok," He took a rope out of his jacket pocket. "Now. We could do this the easy way and you can get medical attention or you can try and run and I put you in the cells for trespassing. Your choice." He smirks as I turn around and wait for him to lead the way.
He nudges my back and we start walking. My injuries are screaming at me to stop but I force my back up and keep walking. I can't let anyone know I'm not capable of running away. If they know I'm weak they might try and lock me up like the other guy. He said he had a cell. Just like the other guy. I shudder at the thought.
"Cold?" The man walks around me and starts walking backwards. "No." He returns back to his normal position behind me and I keep walking. I feel something on my shoulders and wince at the sudden weight.
"Sorry. Just wanted to help." He said as he pulled the jacket around me. I pull it over my chest and put my arms in the sleeves. "Thank you." I murmur. After another long hour of walking we come across a mansion. Just like the other large house, it had smaller houses around it.
I stop and think of my options. I can either run and be put in jail for trespassing or I can follow and escape when they leave me alone. I'm gonna go with the latter.
