An early update! 😁 I hope I'm doing as good as I think. If not please comment where it's boring or where I need to work on. I'll be glad to fix any problems. Thanks for reading!!!
I watched as my grandmother took another shallow breath. Still the deepest she could manage.
"Baby. I know I've done you wrong, but listen. Your father is- was- a wizard. He was powerful. Your grandmother on your mom's side was a white fox. She was hunted. When your mom met your dad, he was thrown out of the coven for being mated to her. Now, you're gonna have to do your own research on foxes or ask your mom. But I have been keeping your scent hidden since your father got sick. Before me, it was him. We couldn't let anyone know who you were.
"There are people who want to see you drown. But I'll be damned if I let you sink. You keep swimming, Nova. Don't let them tear you down, baby. Go to my house. Look in my closet upstairs. There's a book with your name on it. It explains everything." She took another shuddering breath. She looked at the front seat.
"Boy. Listen to me. I know you're wolf. Keep my granddaughter safe or so help me. She is the bridge to unite worlds. There is a such thing as an afterlife. I will drag you to your own personal hell."
David looked at us through the rearview mirror. "I will lay my life down for her. I swear on the moon goddess."
She seemed content with his answer and closed her eyes with a sigh. "I love you, Nova. Stay true to your fox. She will guide you through tough times." And as she took her last breaths, I almost screamed.
"No! No, no,no, no, no, no. Don't go. Please. Please don't go. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to, damn it. Just hold on. We're almost there. D-don't leave me. I need you. I can't do this without you. Fuck! I just found out you were my family." I cried into her shoulder.
David pulled into the hospital lot, and the car screeched to a halt. "I got her Nova, come on." We got both of them into the hospital, and the nurses made us wait in the emergency waiting room again for the second time that day.
As we waited, David held me once more. He stayed quiet for a while. After about an hour, he put his finger under my chin and made me look at him.
"It wasn't your fault. I can tell you now, it was not your fault. I'm here when you're ready to talk. If not, I'll still be ok with that." He tightened his hold on me, and I hugged him back.
"Don't get used to this. I'm not the hugging type. Or the share your feelings with the group type, either. You just... You caught me at a bad time." I sniffled and filled up a cup of water from the cooler in the corner of the room. When I turned around, David sat straight.
"You're wrong. It was my fault. I got emotional. I let my mind cloud and look at what happened." I sat back down and took a sip. "She never told me. I've known that woman my whole life. I've worked for her for 10 years of my life. Not once did she let it slip that she was my grandmother. And that other woman. She's my mom. I never even knew she was alive.
"All these years, I thought the only person I ever had was laying in a hospital bed not able to talk, or move, or anything. Because he was here, I grew up with Westley. That dumbass. He's probably the only person who has ever made me fear anyone. I-I don't know. when it comes to him, I just freeze. I panic."
I shake my head like I'm shaking out a bad memory because I am and sit up.
"But now. Now I have 3 people in my life. All of which will die on the same day. And I find out I'm a white fox. A hunted white fox. My mother was hunted. My father was a witch. My grandmother was a witch." I pause to take a breath.
"Wait. My grandmother said my grandmother on my mom's side was a fox. Then she said she was a witch. But when my mom was talking to her, she called her mom."
