I got into the passenger seat of the convertible as Lei and Nova sat in the back, and put on my seat belt.

"I hope you don't mind if Nova stays over for the night?" I asked Lara.

"As long as her parents don't mind, I'm fine with it."

"My parents are workaholics they're never around anyway, I don't think they'd care," Nova said from the back seat. Lara nodded.

We sat in comfortable silence until we got to the house, and the three of us headed up to my room.

As I opened my room a strong gust of wind hit the door, causing it to slam open and hit the wall with a bang. Nova screamed and flinched, causing Lei to scream too.

"I forgot to close the window- oops" I ran over to the window and slammed it shut.

I looked over at Nova doubled over in laughter, and Lei looked annoyed.

"What?! Whenever someone screams I scream too, it's like a reflex!" Lei said shaking her head, and just to annoy her even more I screamed- to which of course she screamed again.
I started laughing and Nova fell face-first onto my bed in a fit of laughter.

"IT'S NOT FUNNY!"

"OH BUT IT IS!" I cackled, and she walked out.

"I'M GONNA GET FOOD!" I heard her yell as she ran downstairs to the kitchen.

I turned around and walked towards my bed to sit next to Nova, but I tripped on something I must've left on the floor.

I fell on top of Nova, which stopped her fit of laughter. I looked into her eyes, and she looked into mine. I don't know what it was, but I felt this warm fluttery sensation in my stomach as I hovered above her.

"Hi." She said, her voice sounding like a song I could listen to on repeat.

"Hi," I whispered.

My heart was racing a million miles a minute.

She tucked a strand of hair behind my ear, and I took in the subtle scent of her lavender perfume.

"DINNER'S READY!" Lara yelled from the kitchen, which interrupted our train of thought.

"Sorry for falling on you." I got off her and ran downstairs.

I shook my head as if to clear my head, and sat at the kitchen table.

The rest of the night went by in a blur, whenever Nova and I made eye contact it felt like a million butterflies set fire inside of me, so I avoided eye contact. We only met today and I've already managed to screw things up. And why do I feel like this?

"Goodnight guys," I said as I turned off the light.

"Night!" Lei said from her spot on the floor. After a lot of arguing, Lei insisted on sleeping on the air mattress on the floor, and Nova shared my bed with me.

Great.

I couldn't sleep. My thoughts kept me awake. I just couldn't figure out why I felt this way. Me and Nova are just friends, we've only known each other for one day.

This was supposed to be a summer of being at the beach, spending time with my best friend, and maybe getting a boyfriend. Because that's what all girls my age are supposed to want. Friends and cute guys.

This isn't normal, I'm not supposed to feel like this, right? That's what everyone would think. She's a girl. And I'm a girl.
I'm supposed to be with a guy, or as Lei would say; "meet my prince charming."

Even if I don't want a boyfriend, and I want a girlfriend; I highly doubt Nova feels the same way.

I mentally smacked myself in the face.

Shut up, Dawn. You've only known her for a day and now you're questioning.. Forget it. I'm not even gonna think about it. This isn't normal. My aunt would think I'm crazy. Maybe I am crazy.

I looked over at Nova and saw her sound asleep. The moonlight cast a light on her through the curtains, and I couldn't help but look at her face. Her lips were a perfect shade of pink, and her cheeks were rosy. I stopped myself from looking at her any longer and turned the opposite direction to face the wall, I had to try and sleep.

I awoke to the sound of music blaring throughout the kitchen, so I put a hoodie on and went downstairs. Lei and Nova were singing along to the song while putting whipped cream on waffles.

"That's total junk." I scrunched my nose and sat on the edge of the counter, watching them.

"Oh come on its summer who cares?" Nova whined.

"Well she's right, we have to be fit if we want to get boyfriends!"

"That's not what I meant," I mumbled, my head pounding at the sentence she said.

I thought my sentence went unheard, but Nova looked at me for a moment with something that looked like sympathy in her eyes.

"So where are we going today?" I asked, trying to change the subject.

"We could go to my place, my parents aren't home and we could do something there," Nova said. I nodded, and Lei agreed.
